Wellness Director

Hillel of Colorado

Role Overview

Hillel of Colorado seeks a full-time Wellness Director (director) to begin summer, 2024 to serve as Hillel’s first ever staff member focusing entirely on our students’ wellness, and mental health.  Under your leadership, in partnership with a small, dedicated, veteran team that includes a Jewish Student Life Director at each of our three main campuses, you will build and lead Hillel’s wellness programs and services to meet the needs of our evolving college demographic.  You will report to Hillel’s assistant director, who is in charge of campus life.  With your supervisor and three other student-facing engagement professionals you will institutionalize best practices from the wellness field into our organizational culture.

An independent 501(c)3 and multi-campus affiliate of Hillel International, Hillel of Colorado is a Jewish student engagement organization that strengthens college students’ connections to Jewish life with Houses on university campuses at the University of Denver, Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, and Auraria Campus in downtown Denver (Metropolitan State University, University of Colorado Denver, and Community College of Denver).

What You’ll Do

This may be a great fit for you if you are an experienced mental health professional seeking to make an impact on Jewish leaders of today and tomorrow; if you have Jewish cultural competency; if Hillel’s mission, vision, and goals excite you; if you have the skill set this job requires and you strive always to grow as a professional; if you are a compassionate team player who enjoys inspiring others; and if you wish to bring your expertise to enhancing our organizational culture.

To help Hillel achieve our wellness and mental health goals, you will specifically:

  • Assure all Hillel programs address student spiritual, physical, intellectual, social, and emotional wellbeing: an integrated Jewish approach to wellness.
  • Train, consult with, and support our other Hillel student-facing staff and student leaders to integrate wellness promotion and practices into Hillel programs and overall engagement work.
  • Promote student wellbeing through 1:1 and small cohort student groups, and through larger programmatic initiatives and wellness workshops.
  • Build trusting relationships with students.
  • Work with other student-facing staff to continually assess wellness needs on each campus to ensure Hillel is best meeting student needs and infusing wellness practices into our Hillel culture.
  • Staff the Board Wellness Committee, filter their ideas appropriately, and help them best advocate for Hillel mental health and wellness programs.
  • With appropriate student input, assure the Wellness Centers at our Hillels are organized, updated as needed, staffed appropriately, and kept in working order.
  • Build strategic relationships with appropriate stakeholders including programmatic, academic, and mental health providers on our campuses, at Jewish Family Service of Colorado, at Jewish Colorado, and with other key partners.
  • Broadly disseminate mental health resources so they are accessible for students.
  • Support and refer students, providing referrals to mental health professionals as needed.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • You are a master’s-level social worker or professional of similar background.
  • You have 2-5 years’ work experience, at least some in a community-based setting.
  • You have mental health or wellness experience with teenagers or young adults.
  • You have demonstrated success working in this field.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Jewish cultural competency with a strong commitment to pluralistic, diverse Jewish life.
  • A commitment to Hillel’s mission, values, and goals; a belief in college students and a desire to assist them on their life journey.
  • Ability to travel approximately once per week among Hillel campuses (metro-Denver and northern Colorado) to support wellness programs throughout the Hillel of Colorado system.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, expertise in facilitation, and proven ability as a self-starter.
  • A desire to collaborate within our team culture.
  • Curiosity, a strong work ethic, and a sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in MS Suite and comfort with basic social media.

What You’ll Receive

  • A salary of $60,000 – $65,000+ depending on experience.
  • A full benefit package plus mileage and expense reimbursement.
  • Professional development opportunities as a member of a collaborative local team within a strong international organization.
  • Travel to national conferences 2-3/x per year.
  • A flexible work schedule.
  • The opportunity to wake up every day knowing you can make a real and lasting difference in the world and in the lives of your students.
