Looking for a candidate to start in summer 2024. The 2024/2025 Religious School program starts in September and we are seeking an applicant who is ready to step in and use their talents to support the mission of CBE’s Religious School.     

The CBE Religious School Director (“Director”) will work in partnership with CBE’s rabbi, Religious School Administrator and Principal, Education Committee, Board and staff to implement the Religious School curriculum. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Jewish education and building community, helping us provide a multi-sensory, hands-on learning environment that is creative, innovative, and fosters positive working relationships with teachers, students, and families. Effective collaboration skills, flexibility and creativity are crucial to the position. The Director reports to the Board President of CBE.  

An affiliate of Reconstructing Judaism, Congregation Beth Evergreen respects and fosters inclusive Jewish life, where families from a wide variety of backgrounds learn, play, and serve together through religious school classes, Sabbath and holiday services, communal celebrations, and familial lifecycle events.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop/update curriculum and educational initiatives (field trips, guest speakers, etc.); 
  • Develop/update teacher job descriptions and handbook; recruit teachers and staff;
  • Oversee Wednesday afternoon Religious School / Hebrew School programming;
  • Oversee Madrichim (teenage aides) hiring and support;
  • Supervise teachers and religious school staff and implementation of curriculum;
  • Undertake reviews of teachers and participate with the rabbi on teacher training and continuous learning/trainings;
  • Coordinate and manage youth and young family events and programs;
  • Organize and facilitate parent meetings;
  • Serve on Education Committee and provides timely updates;
  • Stay in regular communication with rabbi and synagogue staff;
  • Attend religious school events;
  • Support families in coordinating B'nei Mitzvah matters in conjunction with the rabbi;
  • Seek out and write grants to support the education program.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience in education or a related field or commensurate supervisory experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills are a must;
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, values and ethics, and proficiency in Hebrew a plus

Compensation:  $12,000/year.  This is a part-time position, approximately 10-15 hours/week, 36 weeks/year, with a flexible schedule. Must be available Wednesday afternoons.
