Striar Hebrew Academy of Sharon seeks elementary grades Judaic Studies Teacher

Striar Hebrew Academy is a vibrant preK to 5th grade Modern Orthodox Jewish day school in Sharon, Massachusetts. We are a school where everyone knows and supports each other. Our teachers often stay on staff for 10+ years. We value academic excellence as well as imbuing our students with a love of Torah and Chesed. Teachers are given tremendous freedom to create their own vision of a successful classroom, while also being supported with PD and developed curriculum.

We are seeking a passionate teacher with a belief in Modern Orthodoxy as a wholehearted expression of Torah values to teach Judaic studies to grades 2 and 3. If you have a love of both students and Talmud Torah, and a desire to be a lifelong learner and to grow as an educator, this is your opportunity to instill a love of Judaism in young students. 

 

Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach Limudei Kodesh, including Chumash, Halacha, Chagim, and Parshat Hashavua to students in grades 2 and 3
  • Lead an engaging Tefilah using the Koren Children’s siddur 
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and across subject areas
  • Help plan all school holiday programs and attend school functions including Shabbatonim
  • Other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Head of School

 

What we’re looking for in you:

Passion for what you do: A love of children and a passion for teaching are musts. An understanding of current teaching pedagogies and child development, along with a willingness  to engage in multi-age and center-based learning practices. You model flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student.

Use fair and consistent standards to create a safe learning environment: One that encourages students to take intellectual risks and fosters a growth mindset. You personalize instruction and assessment to maximize student learning, and develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking. 

Personal qualities: Patience, empathy, a sense of humor, self-reflective, able to work independently, and committed to professional growth.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of teaching experience preferred
  • B.A., Master’s Degree in education or a related field, or Smicha (or equivalent)
  • Able to pass state and federal background checks
  • Clear TB test and criminal background check upon hire

  • Able to sit, stand, move, communicate, hear, and read during the course of normal teaching activities
  • Able to think and concentrate for sustained periods of time, and to perform teaching responsibilities with patience and professionalism required to effectively work with children
  • In-person attendance is necessary to perform essential job functions in the classroom
  • Normal exposure to interior heat/air conditioning and interior dust
  • May be exposed to childhood illnesses

 

Details: 

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning

FLSA: This is a full time teaching position

Salary: Range is $53,000-$57,000 depending on experience

Benefits: Health insurance, retirement plan, professional development opportunities, leave early for Shabbat, closed on Jewish holidays, located 1 mile from the Sharon train station
