Position Summary:

The Development Operations Manager will work closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to manage and optimize USCJ’s development processes, increase overall fundraising revenue and build a sustainable development infrastructure. 

The Manager is responsible for oversight and integrity of USCJ’s donor data with an eye for continuous improvement and efficiency in donor relations. The Manager is the key staff member responsible for implementing industry standard donor prospecting systems: screening, identification and elevation to major gift suspects to be stewarded by the CDO and CEO. The Manager provides management and oversight of USCJ’s current annual campaign program, while providing operational administrative support to the Development team.

Responsibilities:  

Prospect Research: (30%)

  • Process Implementation: Through screening the USCJ database, develop internal systems of prospect identification, cultivation and stewardship with the goal of elevating major gift prospects for solicitation.
  • Research and Preparation: Evaluate high net worth individuals, donor prospects, alumni and board candidates. Assesses their philanthropic interests, giving capacity, propensity and readiness. Create reports and briefing materials as necessary for the CDO.
  • Portfolio Creation and Review: In partnership with the CDO, establish manageable donor portfolios with scheduled touchpoints.

Data oversight (25%)

  • CRM Management: Oversee development functions of USCJ’s CRM (built on CiviCRM) in the short term; lead the process of a migration to a new system in the future in partnership with USCJ’s IT team.
  • Data Hygiene: In conjunction with USCJ’s Senior Director of IT, routinely examine and update current data records to ensure data accuracy to eliminate duplicate records, inconsistent data, to maintain overall database integrity and the accuracy of data imported and committed in the database.
  • Reporting: Create and manage department dashboard for analysis, tracking metrics, fundraising and financial reporting. Prepare reports as necessary for the executive team, development committee and Board of Directors.

Annual Campaign Oversight (25%)

  • Strategy: In partnership with the CDO and marketing team, direct monthly and holiday direct/digital fundraising campaigns with attention to target audience, messaging and budgeting.
  • Execution and Improvement: Oversee end-to-end execution of campaigns, including vendor management with the caging company; collaboration with marketing department; and monitoring overall timeline. Identify opportunities for optimization and innovation in the space.
  • Data/Analysis: Track and analyze campaign performance and ensure timely CRM updates of donor information.

General Support (20%) 

  • Partner with CDO on emerging donor engagement strategy.
  • Assist with operational support tasks, such as working in partnership with Finance on donor acknowledgement, creating necessary reports and assisting with donor engagement task support. Oversee and ensure efficiency in processing procedures with Finance.
  • Maintain records and schedules for donor reporting requirements, including gift agreements and naming opportunity agreements.
  • Work with donors via phone and email to accept miscellaneous donations.
  • Oversee smaller campaigns such as phoneathons.
  • Create reports as necessary.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 4+ years of nonprofit development experience
  • 2+ years’ experience and strong knowledge of nonprofit Customer Relations Management systems and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and a sense of responsibility for one’s work
  • Professionalism and confidentiality commensurate with access to donor information
  • Ability to work remotely with moderate supervision including managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously – individually and within a dispersed team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a small team environment
  • Ability to solve problems under pressure and adapt to an evolving organizational environment
  • Experience setting up, customizing or porting CRM systems
  • Not just a problem solver but a problem preventer
  • Accustomed to giving and receiving timely feedback
  • Knowledge of and interest in Conservative/Masorti Judaism and its place within the global Jewish experience; familiar with traditions, values and culture
  • Strong technology skills including video communication platforms (Zoom) and CRM database; proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint; ability to learn online systems and programs quickly

Schedule: 

Monday through Friday; some evening and weekend work required

Travel: 

Requires some travel (2 - 3 times per year)

Salary Range:

$75,000 – $82,000
