Congregation Orach Chaim — a vibrant, warm, and family-oriented Modern Orthodox shul on the Upper East Side of Manhattan — seeks a part-time Programming Director to create, administer, and market engaging activities and programs for the membership.

We are looking for a self-starter, motivated by a love for all-things Jewish, excited to bring Judaism to life through experiential activities and programming. Someone who will build relationships with our young children, teens, and their families and create meaningful and thoughtful activities that will engage our entire multi-generational community.

The candidate will:

Create Jewish learning experiences and programming for Shabbat and holidays and implement key events and programs to correspond with the Jewish calendar. Including, Sukkah decorating, Tu b’Shevat Planting, Tot Shabbats, Teen dinners, PJ Havdalah, Grandparent and Toddler/children music events, and Family Movie Nights.

Serve as a positive role model and provide weekly coaching and training for our teen youth leaders who assist with Shabbat and holiday programming for children through age 12. Provide substantive guidance weekly to the teen leaders of youth groups to engage the children.

Plan and execute programs that are age-appropriate for young children, teens, and adults.

In conjunction with the Rabbi, create and organize programming for the Orach Chaim community throughout the year, including learning opportunities, guest speakers, cultural trips/outings, and holiday-related events.

Oversee and plan occasional Shabbat meals and gatherings for the community, including Purim activities, Chanukah events, Pre-pesach meal, and Host or Be Hosted events.

Develop Budget for events and programs with approval of relevant Board members. Be responsible for execution and marketing on multiple media platforms, including logistical requirements to ensure success of each event. (If not in attendance for a specific event, find a designated point person to assume responsibility for the event.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the creation, scheduling, and distribution of all promotional materials for all events. Including creation of flyers and follow-up publicity and best uses of social media. Gather and create publicity after events to promote Orach Chaim activities to the larger community.

Calendar youth events and shul events for six-month periods.

Attend a youth event at least once a month.

Meet with Rabbi and Operations Manager weekly at Orach Chaim to coordinate activities, marketing plan, and logistics. Minimum of 5 hours/week.on Monday or Tuesday.

Remotely meet weekly with teen youth leaders.

Work directly with Rabbi, officers and board members identified with particular projects.

Coordinate activities with Operations Manager, staff, and custodian.

Ability to learn and be comfortable working with event systems programs used at Orach Chaim. (i.e., ShulCloud)
