Religious School Teacher

Temple Shalom is a warm, inclusive Jewish community that values creativity, relationship-building, and making Jewish learning fun, meaningful, and engaging for students of all ages.

Religious School meets on Mondays from 4:00–6:00 PM throughout the school year. Teachers are expected to arrive no later than 3:45 PM to prepare their classrooms and be ready to welcome students when they arrive.

Kindergarten/1st Grade:

Temple Shalom is seeking a warm, energetic, and creative educator to teach our combined Kindergarten and 1st Grade Religious School class. This position is ideal for someone who loves working with young children and can bring Jewish learning to life through stories, music, art, movement, and hands-on activities.

Our goal is to help children develop positive Jewish identities, a love of Jewish community, familiarity with Jewish holidays and traditions, and an early connection to God, Torah, and the Jewish people.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging lessons
  • Create a warm, welcoming classroom environment
  • Teach age-appropriate Jewish holidays, values, stories, and traditions
  • Incorporate music, crafts, games, and experiential learning
  • Communicate with families as needed
  • Attend faculty meetings

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children
  • Knowledge of Judaism and Jewish traditions
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Creativity, warmth, and enthusiasm
  • Previous teaching experience preferred

3rd/4th Grade

Temple Shalom is seeking a dynamic and engaging educator to teach our combined 3rd and 4th Grade Religious School class. Students at this age are curious, thoughtful, and eager to explore Jewish history, holidays, values, Israel, Torah stories, and what it means to live a meaningful Jewish life.

We are looking for a teacher who can foster discussion, build community, and help students see Judaism as relevant to their everyday lives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging weekly lessons
  • Help students deepen their understanding of Jewish traditions, holidays, and values
  • Facilitate discussions and interactive learning experiences
  • Collaborate with clergy, staff, and fellow teachers
  • Participate in faculty meetings

Qualifications

  • Teaching experience with elementary-aged children
  • Jewish knowledge and comfort teaching Jewish content
  • Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in Jewish education preferred

 

6th Grade:

Temple Shalom is seeking an inspiring educator to teach our 6th Grade Religious School class. Sixth grade is a pivotal year as students begin preparing for the transition to becoming Jewish adults. Our curriculum focuses on Jewish ethics, Jewish history,  and exploring what Judaism asks of us as individuals and as members of a community.

The ideal candidate will be able to engage pre-teens in meaningful conversations, encourage critical thinking, and help students connect Jewish wisdom to the challenges and opportunities of modern life.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging and thought-provoking lessons
  • Foster respectful discussion and active participation
  • Help students explore Jewish identity, ethics, and responsibility
  • Collaborate with clergy and educational staff
  • Participate in faculty meetings

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching middle school-aged students
  • Strong Jewish educational background
  • Ability to connect with pre-teens and create a positive classroom culture
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience in congregational or supplemental Jewish education preferred

 

Compensation for this position is $138 per Monday. This rate includes classroom instruction time, lesson planning, preparation, and occasional administrative tasks as needed. If you have any questions, please email Olivia at [email protected].
