Description

Temple Beth Shalom is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant Conservative synagogue committed to Jewish learning, community, and spiritual growth. We are seeking an experienced, organized, and genuinely personable Religious School Administrator to support our Religious School and partner closely with the Director of Education.

The Religious School Administrator is a central, high-impact role responsible for the smooth operation of the school. This person manages administrative systems, student and teacher records, scheduling, family communication, and event logistics. Their work is vital to the school’s success, ensuring teachers, students, and families are supported and that programs run safely and efficiently.

This role does not require prior experience with Jewish traditions or synagogue management software—training will be provided. What is essential is strong, proven skills in school administration, systems, and organization, as these are critical to the smooth operation and success of the school.

Key Responsibilities

-Systems and organization: Create and maintain clear systems for attendance, student and teacher records, scheduling, reporting, safe dismissal procedures, supply management, and event logistics.

-Teacher and faculty support: Assist teachers with classroom materials, record-keeping, and preparation of twice-yearly student reports. Provide a steady and reassuring presence during busy or challenging times.

-Family communication: ensuring timely, warm, and professional communication about school programs and events.

-Student safety and compliance: Ensure safe dismissal procedures, maintain accurate attendance and emergency contact records, and oversee other student-safety–related tasks.

-Serve as the primary administrative point of contact for Religious School families, faculty, clergy, and prospective families, offering a warm and responsive first impression (by phone, email, and in person).

-Maintain student records, including registration, attendance, enrollment, and emergency information.

-Manage the school calendar, class schedules, room assignments, and logistics for school programs and events.

-Support consistent and clear communication with families and staff through newsletters, emails, and printed materials.

-Provide ongoing administrative support to the Director of Education and teaching staff.

-Prepare and distribute educational materials, class resources, and supplies.

-Coordinate logistics for holidays, special programs, family education days, and other school-wide events.

-Order and maintain inventory of school and classroom supplies.

-Ensure classrooms are prepared, welcoming, and ready for learning; coordinate volunteers as needed.

-Handle confidential student and family information with discretion, professionalism, and care.

Preferred Qualifications

-Prior experience as a school administrator, school office manager, or in a similar educational administrative role strongly preferred.

-Demonstrated ability to manage the day-to-day operational needs of a school or educational program.

-Excellent organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

-Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced school setting.

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with Google Workspace and student database systems a plus.

-Experience with ShulCloud or similar synagogue/school management software is a plus.

-Familiarity with Jewish holidays, traditions, and the Jewish calendar is helpful.

-Warm, approachable demeanor and a genuine commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive school culture.

Additional Skills & Attributes

-Strong customer service mindset and genuine enjoyment working with families, faculty, clergy, and volunteers.

-Detail-oriented with the ability to see both the big picture and day-to-day needs.

-Professional discretion and sound judgment.

-Connection to or interest in Jewish communal life is a plus.
