Woodbury Jewish Center, a vibrant, growing, egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Woodbury, NY, is hiring enthusiastic Religious School teachers for the 2026–2027 school year. If you're passionate about Jewish education, enjoy working with elementary-age children, and want to inspire the next generation through engaging Hebrew School learning, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced teachers, education students, graduate students, camp counselors, youth professionals, and emerging Jewish educators. You'll join a warm, collaborative faculty and receive ongoing mentoring, curriculum support, and professional development throughout the year.

Open Positions

• 1st Grade Religious School Teacher – Sundays, 9:00–11:30 a.m.
• 2nd Grade Religious School Teacher – Sundays, 9:00–11:30 a.m.
• 3rd Grade Religious School Teacher – Sundays, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Additional teaching opportunities may become available based on enrollment.

Teachers should arrive 15 minutes before class to prepare.

First day of Sunday classes: October 18, 2026

Responsibilities

• Teach engaging, interactive Religious School classes for elementary-age students.
• Foster a warm, inclusive, and welcoming classroom community.
• Teach Jewish holidays, Torah, Israel, Jewish values, mitzvot, Hebrew, Jewish history, and Jewish traditions using creative, hands-on learning.
• Collaborate with clergy, administrators, and fellow teachers.
• Communicate regularly with families to support student learning.
• Attend faculty meetings and professional development sessions.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have:

• Experience working with children in a classroom, camp, synagogue, youth group, tutoring, or other educational setting.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• A passion for Jewish learning and Jewish education.
• The ability to create engaging lessons using art, music, drama, movement, games, storytelling, and other interactive teaching methods.
• A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment within a Conservative Jewish community.
