Programs & Events Coordinator

The Programs & Events Coordinator is a full-time employee who plans, coordinates, and executes synagogue programs, events, works with temple youth and communications to foster community engagement and participation. The coordinator ensures smooth logistics, effective promotion, and meaningful congregant experiences across educational, social, lifecycle, and holiday events.

Reports to: Executive Director

Position Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Temple Programming
    • Work with program staff to execute programs across educational, cultural, social, holiday, lifecycle, and fundraising activities from concept through evaluation.
    • Coordinate operations: recruit and register participants; set up Zoom as needed; manage onsite staff/volunteers; process approved honoraria and expenses for payment.
    • Coordinate community events: create registration forms as needed; assist with event coordination; provide onsite staffing for events.
    • Manage logistics: venue setup, vendor coordination (caterers, AV, rentals), materials, signage, registration, and on-site event management.
    • Develop and maintain program calendars; collaborate with clergy, education staff, and other departments to avoid conflicts and maximize participation.
    • Lead communications: draft/distribute announcements, emails, flyers, maintain calendar pages and track RSVPs
    • Maintain program/event budgets; track expenses; process invoices; generate regular reports.
    • Recruit, coordinate, and supervise volunteers for events and programs.
    • Support special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, Jewish communal service, event planning, communications, or related field.
  • 2+ years of program/event coordination experience; synagogue, Jewish organization, or religious community experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteer groups or auxiliary organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort writing for newsletters, eblasts, and social media.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms; familiarity with database systems (e.g., ShulCloud, Salesforce) a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with clergy, staff, lay leaders, and volunteers with diplomacy and warmth.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required by event schedule.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, move about the building frequently and lift up to 25 lbs. desired.

Time and Attendance:

  • Full-Time, Sundays when programming is scheduled, final schedule to be determined in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Attendance at other days/times will be necessary.
  • TBO is closed for most Federal Holidays, Jewish Holidays (Reform Custom), Christmas – New Years, and other dates to be determined.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and aligned with our organization’s compensation framework.  The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $47,000 per year.
