Mishkan Shalom in Philadelphia (Manayunk), PA is seeking a collaborative and enthusiastic educator to serve as the lead teacher in our Gan Aleph Bet (Grades K-2) class and lead Tot and Family Programming. Mishkan Shalom is a dynamic, diverse, progressive and inclusive Reconstructionist Jewish community with an outstanding Congregational School, an array of adult education opportunities,  a community of Tikkun Olam activists and more. We encourage students to explore their relationship with Judaism through experiential play, story telling, the arts, prayer, and Tikkun Olam. The K-2 Teacher will be provided with curricular resources and support and will work with an experienced team of supportive colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with elementary-age children in a Jewish educational setting (school, camp, youth group, etc.)
  • Creative, team-oriented approach to teaching
  • Familiarity with Reconstructionist Judaism (preferred)
  • Experience working with children with a variety of learning needs (preferred)

Job Requirements

  • Maintain availability Saturday mornings, 9:00 AM–Noon, from September 2026 through mid-May 2027
  • Teach K-2 class with approved curriculum
    • Incorporate experiential play, storytelling, arts, prayer, and Tikkun Olam
    • Attend 3-4 staff meetings or professional development sessions during the year
  • Lead Tot and Family Programming
    • Design programming for tots and families several times per year, which may include song, prayer, crafting, storytelling, or discussion
    • Run sessions alongside K-2 class time, with support from parents, a teacher's aide, and/or madrichim (teen leaders) 
  • Submit to a criminal and security background check

 

Pay: Total compensation for the 2026-2027 school year is $4,500, with payments made in equal monthly installments.
