Position Summary:
The mission of the Network Department is to foster thriving institutions positioned to serve today’s catchment and tomorrow’s emerging needs by prioritizing best practices that support programmatic and operational excellence. Talent Development is a critical element of operational excellence as it aims to cultivate and strengthen professional leadership for Jewish nonprofits through powerful and dynamic learning, valuable resources, and a supportive network. Our TD work envisions a vibrant Jewish community, enhanced by Jewish communal organizations and their adaptive and forward-thinking professionals. We understand that the Jewish community is only as strong as its institutions and the professionals that guide them.
UJA’s Talent Development work focuses on organizational strengthening through investment in individual senior leaders, cohort learning that supports professional growth, and trainings that advance staff capacity in critical content areas and operational skillsets.
The Program Manager is responsible for managing one of UJA’s flagship programs, the Ruskay Institute for Jewish Professional Leadership, which cultivates professionals’ ability to imagine the Jewish future and impact the Jewish community by deepening understanding, sharpening vision, and developing key strategies and tools. Participants are rising leaders with typically four to nine years of professional experience with a record of excellence and capacity for growth. The Program Manager is responsible for oversight of the entire institute- including content, relationships, program redesign, faculty, recruitment, facilitation of learning, the development and nurturing of the alumni network. The Program Manager will follow best practices in leadership development to ensure that the Ruskay Institute is best in class.
Beyond the role related to the Ruskay Institute, the program manager will be an integral member of the Network Department team. We are uniquely situated to help individuals, New York based Jewish nonprofits, and the broader Jewish nonprofit field. Together, we are working to address the challenges to recruit, retain, and develop top-quality professionals for the Jewish nonprofit sector. Additionally, we seek to provide guidance to professionals in the Jewish nonprofit sector as they navigate careers in the Jewish community; and advise HR directors in their search for quality staff.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and management of all components of the Ruskay Institute, including:
- Refinement of program curricula, utilizing evaluation data and other inputs as well as new program development
- Marketing and recruitment
- Manage formal selection process for applicants and coaches
- Identify and engage faculty and collaborate to plan sessions, retreats, program and evaluations
- Supervise relevant administrative staff, develop session agendas, retreats, and facilitate convenings
- Liaise with program “benefactor” and managing his involvement in the program
- Contribute to overarching professional development work of the Network department – as a thought leader, and expert on the most current literature and programs in the field, etc.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to program participants and alumni, as appropriate
- Engage with agencies/organizations regarding professional development and staffing needs across the sector
- Outreach to alumni, organizations and prospects on behalf of various talent development programs
- Other projects, as needed
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Six+ years of related experience
- Has a vision for what is needed to unleash the potential of professionals in the sector
- Passion for engaging in work that will strengthen those who work on behalf of the Jewish community
- Commitment to UJA-Federation’s mission and how to actualize it through education and development
- Familiarity with landscape of Jewish non-profit sector
- Self-confidence to engage with CEOs, HR directors, major donors and program providers
- Capable of seeing the big picture and facile in managing minute details
- Demonstrated background in organizational development, including planning educational and training programs, career counseling, and organizational consulting
- Strong facilitation and project management skills
- Master’s degree in public administration, education, organizational development/design/leadership, or M.S.W.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this role is $72,000 - $78,000 annually (21 hours/week); commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.

TIME OFF
We offer a generous number of vacation days and have the Jewish holidays off as well. Fridays our offices close early (October to March at 3:00 pm and April to September at 4:00 pm). All so you can relax and recharge.
