Suburban Temple Kol Ami
Location: Beachwood, OH

Position Overview:

The Director of Lifelong Learning is a senior member of our staff and responsible for the vision, strategies, and management of all educational programs for learners of all ages with a focus on building relationships and learning communities that transform, or at least impact, our lives and our understanding of Judaism and its meaning in our lives. STKA’s Director of Lifelong Learning is a catalyst for broader community-building and the holder of our vision for sustained learning for all members. We anticipate that the role will evolve over time based on the strengths and influence of the hired leader.
Key responsibilities include:

• Drive overall strategy and innovation within educational programming at STKA.
• Hire, mentor, provide professional development for and supervise faculty and madrichim (classroom teaching assistants).
• Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for staff, learners, families and community members with inclusion in mind.
• Work with individual faculty members to write the curricula and lesson plans for their classes.
• Lead meaningful and continuing education programming and trainings related to the yearly learning theme for faculty and madrichim.
• Work with rabbi to prepare students for their B’nai Mitzvah, including the writing of their d’vrei Torah and thank you speeches.
• Lead monthly Shabbat music and story program with Music Director.
• Lead alternative High Holy Day programming for families with children up to 3rd grade.
• Manage the planning and execution of a yearly multigeneration congregational retreat and of the yearly Purim carnival.
• Support and guide the Lifelong Learning Committee. Support and guide other congregational committees, based on time and interest.
• Supervise the advisors on the 4th-7th grade and 8th-12th grade youth groups.
• Collaborate with executive director on all budgets related to the above areas and then oversee these budgets.
• Collaborate on strategy and vision with other members of staff and lay leadership.
• Participate actively in appropriate professional organizations, keep abreast of national trends in Jewish education, and implement new and creative educational ideas.

Your Qualities and Qualifications:

Our Director of Lifelong Learning will have strong organizational skills to creatively develop programs and recognize the importance of flexibility to continue to evolve and grow. They will have the ability to vision, lead and collaborate with the staff and lay leaders. They will be passionate about connecting with learners of all ages and be able to convey the importance
of Jewish learning as it relates to our everyday lives.

• Master's Degree in Jewish Education preferred or Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Jewish Studies
• 5-7 years supervision of teaching and staff; committee and project oversight
• Experience in Jewish education and Jewish youth programming
• Experience developing curriculum
• Demonstrated personal passion for Jewish learning and living
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and attention to detail
• Commitment to inclusion and sensitivity to different kinds of learners
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
• Commitment to teamwork
• Knowledge of Hebrew

The Director of Lifelong Learning reports to the Rabbi

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range $75,000-$95,000 commensurate with experience and training. STKA provides a comprehensive benefits package including health and retirement benefits, family leave, paid vacation, sick time, professional dues and development.

Our Mission:

Our Tent seeks to nurture learners on a lifelong journey through the lens of Jewish tradition and values. Knowledgeable and committed teachers will facilitate learning for everyone, no matter your age or background, wherever you are on your personal journey, towards a meaningful Jewish life and a deeper connection to our community.
Our Tent classes connect Judaism to learners’ interests and passions making Judaism more meaningful to their lives and allowing learners to discover that they can look at everything through a Jewish lens. Each Sunday morning, about 100 learners from three generations come together to engage in experiential learning, build community and share a love of Judaism through innovation classes, creative t'filah and informal time together getting to know one another.

The Structure:

When: Sundays 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Schedule:
9:00-9:20 – K’hilah (Foyer)
K’hilah is our community time. This unstructured time is important – it’s when we begin to meet our goals of gathering together and fostering relationships. Bagels, coffee, and juice are provided to all!

9:25-10:20 – Learning Session I
Whether studying text, learning about superheroes, performing improv, cooking, engaging in social action or more, during our learning sessions, our learners will find personal meaning, make Judaism relevant to their daily lives, grow a stronger Jewish identity, create lasting memories, and become lifelong learners. Through classes chosen by you, our learning sessions will build community and foster lasting relationships.

10:25-11:00 – T’filah (Services)
Like the rest of our program, our t’filah experience is creative, innovative and experiential. It will help not only connect us to our STKA community, but to the larger Jewish community through our common prayers and the Hebrew language.

11:05-12:00 – Learning Session II
This session, like Learning Session I, provides several different courses and experiences for all ages.
