Part-Time Education Director Position

Congregation Beth El - Ner Tamid in Delaware County seeks a passionate, innovative, and relationship-centered Education Director of their Mensch Making Academy religious school for Kindergarten through 10th grade. The Education Director will collaborate with synagogue clergy, administration, lay leaders, and all arms of the congregation to connect, inspire, and engage our Mensch Making Academy students, parents, and madrichim/teen role models in Jewish study, culture, tradition, wonder, and celebration. We seek a leader who is creative, accessible, responsive to children and adults social and emotional needs, and able to encourage faculty, madrichim, students and parents to ‘think, feel, learn, do and experience Judaism".

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leadership: Develop, implement and evaluate curriculum; ensure that curriculum supports and celebrates the unique individuality of every student and their learning styles. Communicates curriculum goals with faculty and parents. Models Jewish learning and social & emotional focused mensch making activities. Coordinates High Holiday services for tots through teens. Works with School Board and lay leadership; attends Board meetings and staff meetings to present updates.
  • Supervision: Recruits, interviews, hires, mentors, observes, evaluates and helps retain highly qualified faculty, specialists, and special needs support. Provides professional development opportunities and coaching/mentoring. This position has an office support person to help the Education Director in the school 12 - 15 hours a week. The Education Director reports directly to the Executive Director. The Education Director currently oversees 6 faculty members and 5 teen Madrichim.
  • Engagement: Acts as an ambassador for CBENT and the Mensch Making Academy, fostering prospective members, current students, their parents and congregants. Designs educational and social programs for students and their families to support learning, mission/vision of the school and connection between parents. Works with the Director of the Mini Mensch Academy to program and engage parents as well as convert Mini Mensch kids to become students in Kindergarten and beyond. Works with teens and Madrichim/11th and 12th grade role models to support their leadership and volunteerism at CBENT. Promotes inclusive environment. Communicates with families.
  • Management & Collaboration: Oversees school programming. Follows security measures and empowers faculty and madrichim to follow all security protocols. Builds a yearly calendar. Works with the school and synagogue treasurers to create and analyze the school budget. Works with social media/graphic design specialists to create monthly communications to advertise programs. Writes monthly Shofar article and submits photos to synagogue newsletter. Explores opportunities for grants.
  • Qualifications: College degree. Background in Jewish Education. Leadership experience preferred. Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively. Strong commitment to inclusive learning and community building. Interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Love of synagogue life and children, young and old!
