Bookkeeper

Summary

Beth Sholom B’nai Israel is a conservative synagogue in Manchester, CT. We're now hiring a bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeper will work with the Office Manager and the Finance Committee to maintain the financial activities of the synagogue. This is an in person position. 

Essential Functions

• Perform payroll functions in an accurate and timely manner, and record payroll taxes
• Conduct reconciliation of all accounts on an as needed basis
• Maintain and balance the general ledger in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
• Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments
• Perform all activities related to donations made to the synagogue including reviewing, processing donations, and generating acknowledgements
• Perform accounts receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
• Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data
• Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to professional standards

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient skills in Sage (preferred), QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proactive problem solving skills
• Patient, good natured, good with people, friendly
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, to work effectively with all types of personalities, be responsive to the needs of volunteers and collaborate well with other staff and members.
