Congregation Shaarey Zedek (CSZ) is a thriving Conservative synagogue located in Southfield, Michigan north of Detroit. CSZ has a long legacy of serving the Detroit Jewish community as well as the international Conservative Jewish community. The largest Conservative congregation in Michigan, our beloved synagogue family prides itself on our diversity of ages, backgrounds, sexual orientation, modes of Jewish practice, and length of membership with the Synagogue. 

As CSZ capitalizes on recent successes and charts a course for our future, we are seeking a dynamic, compassionate, highly motivated Executive Director who will effectively manage the daily operations of the synagogue, become an integral part of the senior leadership team, work in sacred partnership with lay leadership, clergy, and staff, and be a strong steward of CSZ’s core values. The Executive Director is the tactical expert of the Senior Leadership Team and a key contributor to a collaborative, creative, energetic, and visionary team environment. Key roles include: operational excellence, human resource management and engagement, strategic leadership, and development. 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: 

  • Proven management experience in non-profit or comparable business environment;
  • Proven track record of increasing responsibility for operations, events, communications and community relations and understanding of key performance metrics; 
  • Leadership experience working with staff and volunteers; 
  • Experience in personnel matters including hiring, oversight, and reviews;  
  • Strong financial management experience including budgets and financial reporting; 
  • Willingness to manage and lead non-profit fundraising efforts. 
  • Working understanding of Jewish life and practices; 
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; and 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or other advanced degree a plus.
