Position Title: Song Leader & Musical Partner Organization: Congregation Beth El – Jewish Learning Center (JLC) Location: South Orange, NJ Schedule: Sundays, 9:00 AM–11:30 AM during the JLC school year Compensation: Starting at $75/hour, commensurate with experience About the Role The Jewish Learning Center (JLC) at Congregation Beth El is seeking an engaging, energetic, and musically talented Song Leader & Musical Partner to help create meaningful Jewish experiences for children and families. This individual will play a central role in leading tefillah (prayer), Jewish music, and community-building through song during our Sunday morning religious school program. Key Responsibilities • Lead age-appropriate tefillah experiences for students in grades PreK-5. • Facilitate engaging Jewish music sessions throughout the Sunday morning program. • Teach and model traditional and contemporary Jewish songs. • Collaborate with clergy, educational leadership, and classroom teachers to support curriculum and community goals. • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages student participation. • Help students build comfort and familiarity with synagogue melodies, blessings, and prayer practices. • Participate in special programs, holiday celebrations, and family education opportunities as needed. Qualifications • Experience leading music with children in educational, camp, synagogue, or youth settings. • Strong singing and presentation skills. • Camp Song Leader, song session, youth group, or similar experience strongly preferred. • Ability to play guitar, keyboard, or another accompanying instrument is a plus. • Knowledge of Jewish music, prayer, and traditions preferred. • Excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills. • Enthusiasm, warmth, creativity, and reliability. Additional Opportunities For the right candidate, additional paid teaching opportunities may be available within the Jewish Learning Center, including: • Tuesday afternoon Hebrew School • Wednesday afternoon Hebrew School • Special family programs and holiday events • Substitute teaching opportunities Compensation & Benefits • Starting rate of $75/hour. • Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. • Opportunities for additional hours and responsibilities throughout the year.
