Director of Member Engagement and Programming (DEP)
The Director of Member Engagement and Programming leverages their passion for and knowledge of the Jewish experience to recruit new synagogue members and to increase engagement among current members. Other membership related responsibilities include the planning and implementation of programs, lifecycle events, and holiday celebrations.
Working with lay leadership (i.e. committee chairs) the clergy, administrative staff, and members, the DEP creates and implements a holistic vision of the member experience and the yearly cycle of events. This vision serves as the basis for development of a member recruitment plan as well as a member engagement plan.
The DEP employs programming strategically as an opportunity to deepen engagement with the synagogue and to strengthen and build connections among congregants. A wide variety of quality experiences and initiatives are offered to meet the emerging and identified needs of congregants. The DEP acts as a volunteer coordinator, encouraging congregants to participate both in designing and delivering programs.
The DEP is responsible for planning and implementing holiday celebrations including the High Holidays, Chanukah, Purim, Passover, Shavuot, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah.
The DEP assists members when they are planning life cycle events and coordinates all administrative and logistical arrangement for life cycle events, including supervision of kitchen staff.
The DEP helps to identify synagogue fundraisers to maximize profit and oversees all aspects of the fundraiser.
Bachelor’s Degree required, further education a plus
3 years of relevant experience
Knowledge of Reform Jewish principles and practices; understanding and/or experience in synagogue setting helpful.
Ability to plan and prioritize work
Familiarity with the use of social media
Commitment to working as a team
Exceptional interpersonal skills
