Position Summary

The Camp Director provides year-round leadership for Center Sleepaway Camp and is accountable for its overall success. Working closely with Center leadership, the Camp Committee, and the host camp, the Camp Director leads the strategic, operational, and programmatic aspects of the camp while ensuring every experience reflects the mission, values, and standards of the Sephardic Community Center.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Champion the vision and long-term success of Center Sleepaway Camp
  • Establish annual goals, performance metrics, and strategic priorities
  • Partner with Center leadership and the Camp Committee to guide the camp’s continued success
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement

Camp Experience

  • Design and oversee an engaging, age-appropriate overnight camp program for students entering grades 6 through 8.
  • Deliver a safe, engaging, memorable, and premium camp experience that promotes friendship, confidence, independence, personal growth, and fun
  • Oversee daily camp operations, schedules, activities, trips, evening programs, and special events
  • Establish traditions, rituals, and signature experiences that become hallmarks of Center Sleepaway Camp
  • Continuously evaluate and elevate program quality

Jewish Life & Sephardic Culture

  • Serve as the camp’s spiritual and cultural leader
  • Create meaningful Jewish experiences through Shabbat, tefillah, Havdalah, holidays, and daily camp life
  • Celebrate and strengthen the customs, traditions, and values of the Sephardic community
  • Partner with rabbis, educators, and community leaders to enrich the camp experience

Staff Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, supervise, and inspire an exceptional seasonal leadership team and counselor staff
  • Provide comprehensive training, mentorship, coaching, and performance management
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and leadership development

Enrollment & Family Engagement

  • Lead camper recruitment and retention efforts
  • Build strong relationships with prospective and returning families
  • Represent Center Sleepaway Camp at community events, information sessions, and family programs
  • Partner with The Center’s Marketing team on enrollment campaigns and communications
  • Serve as the primary resource for parents before, during, and after camp

Operations & Partnership Management

  • Oversee the year-round planning, administration, and execution of Center Sleepaway Camp
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the host camp
  • Coordinate shared services, including facilities, dining, health services, transportation, security, and logistics
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget
  • Ensure sound financial stewardship, administrative oversight, and effective risk management

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success leading an overnight camp, youth organization, school, educational program, or comparable mission-driven organization
  • Passion for developing children, teens, and future community leaders
  • Deep understanding of Jewish life and values, with the ability to embrace and authentically celebrate the traditions and culture of the Sephardic community
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and leading high-performing teams
  • Strong operational, financial, and project management abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to build culture, inspire teams, and deliver exceptional experiences
