Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

The CFO oversees all financial aspects of the agency.  Responsible for overview and assessment of all contracts and budget management.  The CFO will meet monthly with each of the Boards treasurer and or financial committees to review financials to present to each of the Agency Boards.

 Job Responsibilities:

This person will follow direction from the CEO and their job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee accounting operations and support Comptroller
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to assist in monitoring revenue and expenses of the organization
  • Provide information to agency auditors
  • Lead the annual budget process and financial contracts
  • Monitor and complete all requirements to maintain the organizations 403(b) plan
  • Staff, Board, Executive Committee, and Investment Committee meetings
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through process and system enhancements
  • Provide oversight of the overall accounting function through analysis of financial statements and providing counsel to the accounting team, including foundation funding
  • Develop and implement strategic plans, monitor operational activity, and recommend priorities for long term success
  • Develop annual operating plans along with ongoing analysis of variances from the planned outcomes
  • Develop long-range cash forecasts
  • Manage multiple agency relationships     
  • Be a proactive liaison with the financial related agency relationships
  • Create and provide financial modeling to help clients understand and plan for the impact of future events or decisions
  • Review existing and future insurance policies and manage risk

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Serve as a member of the executive management team, attending board meetings
  • Provide financial coaching to leadership to help the agency make informed financial decisions
  • Assist with contract negotiations by fostering strong relationships and evaluating terms to help minimize risks and maximize benefits
  • Assist with comparing competing offers and negotiating for the best possible terms
  • Work with fundraising team by assembling the financial story and model growth trajectory to support agency fundraising needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by executive leadership

 Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance with at least 10 years’ experience in a non-profit environment or MBA and 5 years’ experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred 
  • High level of accounting knowledge and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Experience in non-profit and/or fund accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software programs (e.g., QuickBooks and Fundriver); MS Office with an in-depth knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge and skills in developing program budgets
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations related to financial management, purchasing, billing, and insurance
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable interfacing with donors
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner to all donors, clients, employees, vendors, and the community
