Arizona Jewish Academy, located in Scottsdale, AZ, is a private, co-ed, Jewish High School with a rigorous dual curriculum of Judaic and college preparatory studies. The school opened in 2021 and is rapidly looking to expand its faculty, with ample opportunities ranging from part-time positions to full-time positions.

The Position:  High School Judaic Studies Instructor and Mashgiach Ruchani, Full-Time or Part-Time

Do you want to make an impact on our Jewish teens, helping them grow, build lifelong skills, and foster a love for Judaism?  Do you want to contribute and help shape a growing, dynamic Jewish school? 

Arizona Jewish Academy is searching for highly dependable Judaic Studies teacher and Mashgiach Ruchani to join our team in a full-time or part-time capacity.  This role encompasses two main components:  

  • Providing excellent Judaic Studies classroom instruction
  • Enhancing the Jewish atmosphere of the school

You should also be willing to wear many hats in this small and flexible school environment.  Outstanding candidates should be knowledgeable, skilled at teaching, approachable, caring, and able to convey their passion to students. In addition, they should be engaging and inspiring, enabling students to form meaningful and positive lifelong connections to their Judaism.  We are looking to build a world-class, creative Jewish Studies department and would love to add you to our team. 

Essential Job Functions:

Course Instruction and Commitment to Professional Excellence

  • Willingness to formulate course curricula or implement existing course curricula in areas of Talmud, Tanach, Halacha, Jewish Philosophy and other Judaic Studies electives.
  • Ability to design creative Jewish studies courses that are diverse in content, utilize a variety of teaching strategies, and meet the needs of diverse learners. 
  • Ability to deliver engaging Judaic Studies lessons. 
  • Grade exams, quizzes, assignments, and presentations, and contact parents and other faculty members to discuss concerns and schedule interventions.
  • Assess student work and provide meaningful feedback to guide learning and growth.
  • Provide extra support to struggling students and additional resources to those who display exceptional interest in the subject matter.
  • Regularly expand educational networks and participate in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.

Contributing to a Positive and Supportive School Culture (Mashgiach Ruchani)

  • Build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion.
  • Serve as a religious role model for students
  • Chaperone school trips
  • Design activities out of the classroom relating to Jewish holidays 
  • Plan and execute school-wide shabbatons 

 

  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist in other school programs when necessary in this small school environment. 

 

  • Demonstrate open-mindedness to students with various levels of religious practice and commitment.

General Professionalism:

  • Keep accurate student records through our learning management system.
  • Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Participate professionally in scheduled meetings as needed.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in order to enhance the instructional and institutional environment. 
  • Use classroom management strategies and approaches to create and maintain an environment of safety, respect, positivity, acceptance, and learning.
  • Maintain punctual communication and grading practices.
  • Adhere to school policies, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Support the Mission and Values of School.
  • Willingness to receive constructive feedback.
  • Other duties as indicated, including possible supervisory roles during school prayer.

 

Required Qualifications: (Skills, experience, education/certification, etc.)

  • A bachelor’s degree, rabbinical degree or advanced study ie Masters Degree in Jewish Studies or other relevant field.    
  • Experience teaching general and advanced high school Judaics is desired.
  • Leadership experience within Jewish youth organizations is desired.
  • A passion for Judaic Studies and the ability to inspire students.

Compensation

  • Competitive and commensurate with background and experience. 
  • Part time teachers (3 or fewer courses per week) are compensated per class hour.
  • Full time teachers (4 or more courses per week) are salaried and are eligible for benefits.
    • Benefits include individual medical insurance, option to purchase a family plan, option to purchase dental and vision insurance, 401(k).
