DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION OVERVIEW
Bring your ruach! We’re searching for a high-energy Jewish professional to
captain our nationally recognized Religious School and Youth programs—
nurturing strong Jewish identities from tot to teen. You’ll shape engaging
curriculum, supervise and support teachers, guide day-to-day school
operations, and build warm, productive relationships with students, families,
clergy, and lay leaders. If you’re energized by building community and helping

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan, implement and review Youth, Family and Education programs in
collaboration with the clergy, Executive Director, staff and lay leadership.
2. Establish procedures and recommend policy regarding Youth, Family and
Education, working closely with professional staff and lay leadership.
3. Collaborate on marketing, communications, and social media outreach
related to Hebrew School, youth programming, and family engagement.
4. Liaise with and provide administrative support to the Education and Youth
Committees.
5. Develop and manage the budgets related to Youth, Family and Education.
6. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with staff, committees, the Board of
Trustees, senior leadership (and other required meetings).
7. Maintain regular communication with the clergy regarding halacha and
any material changes to the Hebrew School curriculum.
8. Coordinate with the Executive Director regarding scheduling, facilities use,
staffing, and other administrative matters.
9. Perform other duties as assigned to support Congregation Ohev Shalom.


The expected hire date is on or before May 1, 2026.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION

  • EDUCATION

1.Provide daily leadership and supervision of all aspects of the Hebrew school.
2. Develop and oversee the implementation of curriculum (in consultation with clergy as appropriate).
3. Recruit, hire, supervise, support and evaluate teachers.
4. Provide continuous professional learning opportunities to teaching staff and youth advisors.
5. Plan, coordinate, and oversee children/teen related activities for the High Holidays through the
development and implementation of programming in conjunction with other Education and Youth staff.
6. Oversee the Madrichim program and supervise the Madrichim coordinator.
7. Represent COS in community-wide educational organizations and projects.
8. Develop, plan, staff and execute weeklong summer program in collaboration with staff and lay
leadership.
9. Oversee the COS Hebrew High program, including curriculum design, teacher supervision, and student
engagement.

  • YOUTH

1. Hire and supervise Youth staff and advisors for USY, USY Gesher, and USY Chaverim Youth groups.
2. Develop, plan, staff, and execute Youth programming in conjunction with Youth advisors.
3. Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development support for Youth staff and teen leaders.
4. Oversee planning, implementation and evaluation of the Machar Program, including management of the
grant process and high school community service hours.
5. Represent our Youth group chapters by establishing and maintaining communication within the USY
sub-region and the larger USY region (i.e. conventions).
6. Develop and implement educational and leadership programs that deepen Youth engagement and
connection to Jewish life.
7. Oversee the coordination of and attend Youth-focused synagogue functions (e.g. Youth Shabbat, plays,
and performances).
8. Partner with clergy to ensure meaningful spiritual and ritual opportunities for Youth and teens throughout
the year.

  • FAMILY PROGRAMMING

Establish, plan, implement and evaluate programs for families with children of all ages (infant through highschool) in collaboration with staff and lay leadership that provide opportunities for parents to engage with their children. These programs should strengthen Jewish identity and literacy, encourage parent participation and family learning, and foster community connections across age groups.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS

We seek an individual with a range of experiences and backgrounds in Jewish education. The following
attributes reflect the qualities and experiences that will support success in this role but are not strict
requirements.


EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION
•Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Jewish education, Education, Jewish Studies, or a related
field, or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree is valued but not essential.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Jewish educational settings, ideally including program leadership,
staff supervision, and curriculum development.
• Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional
leadership, innovation, and impact in Jewish education.
• Evidence of success in creating, delivering, and overseeing engaging Judaic curricula for children, teens,
and families.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and support educators, collaborate with clergy and lay leaders, and foster
an inclusive Jewish learning environment.
• Experience in budget and project management, with strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Cultural and educational fluency in Conservative Judaism, synagogue life, Hebrew language, Jewish
holidays, and liturgy.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Excellent leadership, communication, team management and executive functioning skills.
• Strong technological proficiency, including experience integrating digital tools to enhance teaching,
learning, and administrative efficiency.
• High level of professionalism, creativity, and collaborative spirit

Salary80,000.00 - 115,000.00 Annual
