Job Summary 
The Religious School Principal supports the educational vision of the congregation under the supervision of the Director of Congregational Learning. This role ensures that the Lee and Frank z”l Goldberg Family Religious School’s programs—encompassing classroom learning, holiday celebrations, retreats, and community engagement—are high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the school’s mission and values.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities 

Education and Programming 

  • Collaborate with the Director of Congregational Learning, education team, and clergy team members, as needed, to plan and implement curriculum and programming. 
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the school’s daily operations to ensure an efficient, safe, and supportive learning environment. 
  • Manage enrollment processes and conduct campus tours for prospective families.  
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate annual 4th-7th grate retreat and school-wide programs, in collaboration with the education team, that engage children and families in meaningful Jewish learning experiences. 
  • Develop weekly specialist and Sunday schedules and communicate them to teachers. 
  • Support teachers with age-appropriate educational and classroom management resources and materials aligned with the Hebrew and Judaica curricular vision. 
  • Collect weekly lesson plans and procure supplies for Lower School classes.  
  • Coordinate tutoring, differentiated instruction, and learning accommodations to ensure all students’ individual needs are met. 
  • Mentor the Madrichim (teen assistants) assigned to Lower School classrooms; work with Youth Engagement Coordinator to design and lead in-service training sessions. 
  • Coordinate substitute teachers and provide instructional support as needed during Lower School sessions (Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays). 
  • Provide administrative support during Upper School (7th – 12th grade) programs. 
  • Help plan and implement age-appropriate holiday and community programs, including the Youth High Holy Day experience and other special events. 
  • Assist in developing and leading Lower School components of summer learning experiences such as B’nai Mitzvah preparation workshops. 
  • Plan and coordinate travel programs, including chaperoning as needed (e.g., Platt Youth to Israel Trip, L’Taken Trip to Washington, D.C.). 
  • Provide administrative support to clergy for Family Education days.  

Communications and Public Relations 

  • Ensure photography for school events and coordinate with the communications/programming department to ensure timely sharing of content for publications and social media. 
  • Prepare and distribute the weekly teacher schedule, as well as all-school newsletter. 
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, families, and staff to ensure smooth operations and alignment with educational goals. 

 

Working Relationships  

  • Report directly to Director of Congregational Learning 
  • Collaborate with the Program CoordinatorYouth Engagement Coordinator, and clergy 
  • Interact with youth, members, volunteers, and community organizations as appropriate

Acts as a model to school staff and empowers staff to engage in practices that help to build relationships with children, parents, and congregants that support welcoming, excellent service and education, and meaningful, positive interactions.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Jewish Education, or related field (Master’s preferred). 
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Reform Judaism including prayers, rituals, and holidays. 
  • Experience teaching or administering school or supplementary school programs. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to take initiative to work independently and as a part of a team.  
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.  
  • Passion for Jewish learning and for fostering joyful, inclusive community.  experiences for children and families. 
  • Resilience and ability to evolve and change with direction.  
  • Desire to develop an inclusive learning environment.  
  • Digital proficiency in working with computers, including social media, email, databases, and spreadsheets.  

 

Work Hours Per Week Required  

Full-time position. Schedule may vary depending on time of year and organizational activities. Availability for evenings, Sundays, and occasional travel is required.
