VOLUNTEER MANAGER & RSVP DIRECTOR
Salary: $60,000-$65,000

JOB PURPOSE
The Volunteer Manager & RSVP Director plays a critical role in advancing JFCS’s mission by leading the agency’s volunteer engagement efforts, managing the RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), and strengthening community partnerships throughout Northern NJ. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), this highly collaborative position is responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining volunteers while developing meaningful opportunities that deepen community involvement and expand organizational impact.
The Volunteer Manager & RSVP Director will oversee all aspects of volunteer engagement across the agency, cultivate relationships with local schools, businesses, and community organizations, and manage government-funded RSVP socialization programs that connect volunteers with homebound older adults. As a key member of the Development team, this individual will also help identify and cultivate volunteers as donors, committee members, and advocates while supporting our events like Ride to Fight Hunger and Celebration dinner.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, organized, and relationship-driven professional who is familiar with the Northern New Jersey Jewish Community and who enjoys working with diverse populations, building community connections, and creating engaging volunteer experiences that inspire long-term involvement and support.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Management
· Recruit, interview, screen, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers across multiple agency programs and service areas.
· Develop and implement strategies to engage, retain, recognize, and cultivate volunteers.
· Ensure volunteer records, applications, references, background checks are maintained accurately and confidentially.
· Manage volunteer communications, updates, and recognition initiatives.
· Maintain/update volunteer policies, procedures, onboarding materials, training resources.
· Coordinate volunteer schedules, service opportunities, and agency volunteer events.
· Lead and support volunteer committees and volunteer leadership initiatives.
· Develop surveys, engagement metrics, and measurement tools for volunteer impact.
· Prepare service hour verification, recognition letters, and acknowledgments.
Community Outreach & Volunteer Engagement
· Build and strengthen partnerships with local schools, businesses, synagogues, and civic organizations through volunteer initiatives and engagement opportunities.
· Develop creative volunteer programming that encourages both service participation and monetary or in-kind donations.
· Represent JFCS at community fairs, mitzvah projects, networking events, and outreach opportunities throughout Northern New Jersey.
· Manage Caring Card and other volunteer initiatives supporting homebound older adults.
· Plan/execute volunteer training sessions, appreciation events, and recognition programs.
RSVP Program Management
· Oversee the operational management of the RSVP program, including volunteer recruitment, placement, and ongoing support.
· Match volunteers with homebound older adults and monitor relationships to ensure positive outcomes and participant satisfaction.
· Maintain regular communication with volunteers and clients, addressing concerns and ensuring service needs are met.
· Collaborate with ‘Older Adult Services’ to coordinate resources for program participants.
· Track volunteer participation, collect documentation, manage reporting and KPI metrics for AmeriCorps RSVP and grant compliance.
Development/Fundraising & Other Support
· Identify and cultivate volunteers as potential donors, committee members, advocates, and future community leaders.
· Solicit donations, sponsorships, in-kind support for programs & fundraising events
· Lead volunteer recruitment/management for Ride to Fight Hunger & other agency events.
· Partner with the Development team to support fundraising initiatives, donor engagement activities, and special events; assist in strengthening community awareness and philanthropic support for JFCS programs and services.
· Collaborate with agency programs, including the food pantry, to support volunteer needs and placement opportunities; support any other special agency projects or initiatives.
· Participate in networking opportunities, and relevant training programs related to volunteer management and nonprofit services.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree + 3-5 years in volunteer management, nonprofit programs, community engagement, fundraising, or related fields.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse populations and stakeholder groups.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Knowledgeable of Jewish Culture/Communities; familiarity with the local Northern NJ Jewish Community a big plus.
· Experience recruiting, training, supervising, and motivating volunteers.
· Creative thinker, able to develop volunteer programs and community partnerships.
· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
· MS Office + CRM experience (DonorPerfect or other volunteer management platforms).
· Comfortable speaking to community groups, schools, businesses, other audiences.
· Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel locally as needed.
