Position: Part-Time Elementary School Hebrew and Judaic Studies Teacher Assistant

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a community Jewish day school, seeks an energetic, passionate, and flexible elementary school Teacher Assistant in grades 1-5, to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will be professional and collaborative, will possess personal integrity, and will be enthusiastic about participating in our community of lifelong learners.

Compensation is based on experience and background. Salary range is $24-$27 an hour.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Work cooperatively and supportively with Hebrew/Judaic Studies teachers and coordinators

A successful candidate will have:

  • Passion for and experience with elementary students and learning
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with people of all levels in a professional and constructive manner
  • Flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities
  • Mastery of the Hebrew language
  • Desire to engender a love of learning as well as a caring, professional demeanor.

 

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is a TK through eighth-grade Jewish community day school.  Its 76,000-square-foot facility includes a gymnasium/auditorium/performance space, a library, a lunch pavilion, a Maker/Tech Lab, elementary and middle school science labs, an art studio, a music classroom, playgrounds, and an athletic field. The school’s values of tradition, character, and community have been its foundation for over forty-five years, and they continue to infuse students, faculty, staff, and parents with shared vision and meaningful purpose. Our academic program emphasizes the development of thinking, problem-solving, and creative self-expression, which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills.  Modern approaches to teaching and learning, using technology, project-based learning, and an overall emphasis on student attainment of 21st-century skills are balanced with the incorporation of ancient traditions and values that are hallmarks of Judaism. The teaching of resilience, the overcoming of adversity, and the development of confidence in one’s abilities are emphasized, bearing in mind age-appropriate capabilities and individual student progress.
