The Edlavitch DCJCC (EDCJCC) is the Jewish community’s address in our nation’s capital. Position Overview

The Director of Donor Engagement is a new role to the EDCJCC’s Advancement Department with a goal of identifying new prospects and donors both from within our existing community of members and program participants, and from those who are new to the EDCJCC altogether. The ideal candidate will be a confident and passionate fundraiser with a strong track record of cultivating, stewarding, and ultimately soliciting gifts. With an approach that is based in relationship building, this person would manage a portfolio of individuals and help set the strategic approach for each person, whether that is building the relationship with the donor/prospect themselves or working with existing Advancement and/or program staff to do so.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Advancement and working closely with the CEO, CXO, and program staff, the Director of Donor Engagement will work with a small but mighty Advancement team to continue to help us build a strong culture of philanthropy within our community leading to increased contributed income, one of the five pillars of the EDCJCC’s Strategic Plan.

 

Responsibilities

Donor Management and Engagement

  • Manage a portfolio of 80-100 donors and prospects to support the Center’s Annual Fund and/or programs. Develop tailored moves plans for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with the intention to significantly increase donor giving over time.
  • Successfully complete or help to schedule 15 high-touch meetings/scheduled interactions each month. Work with program staff to prepare for and execute these meetings when applicable.
  • Manage and/or support planning for donor engagement events with fundraising components.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Donor Identification and Prospecting

  • Using data aggregated by our new CRM, wealth screening tools, and staff’s existing knowledge of and relationships within our community, identify members and program participants that should be surfaced as donor prospects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Program Collaboration

  • Work with senior staff and program managers to identify priority areas and strategic opportunities for funding. Meet with program teams on a regular basis to identify donor engagement opportunities and to help cultivate and support a culture of philanthropy among team members.

General Support and Administrative Tasks

  • Support the Advancement Team as needed, including pitching in with ad hoc tasks, supporting events, assistant with mailings, assisting with special projects and outreach.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in individual giving.
  • Passion for the work and mission of the Edlavitch DCJCC.   
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with donors, volunteers, staff, and lay leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the EDCJCC’s mission and impact to diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills, experience using and managing data for the purposes of strategic fundraising and navigating multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in donor management software (Salesforce experience preferred, but not required), Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.

 

Salary, Benefits, and Work Requirements

  • Full-time, year-round, salaried.
  • Competitive salary (beginning at $85,000) in the non-profit marketplace.

  • This position can be fully in-person or hybrid. The EDCJCC requires staff to be in-person in the Washington, DC office a minimum of three (3) days a week.
