Description

Kol Ami, a small but growing Reconstructionist congregation in Northern Virginia, is searching for a Hebrew School teacher for our Jewish Children’s Educational Program (JCEP), specifically someone to teach ages 8-10 (grades 3-4).

JCEP meets in person on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-6:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington (UUCA) in Arlington, Virginia. JCEP serves about 20 children between the ages of 6-13 years and the curriculum is typically divided into two segments: (1) Hebrew and tefilah/prayer, and (2) Judaic subjects such as ethics, Torah, history, culture, and Jewish holidays. Children are grouped into small classes based on age and abilities:

  • Ages 6-8 (1st - 2nd grade)
  • Ages 8-10 (3rd - 4th grade)
  • Ages 10-13 (5th - 7th grade)

The JCEP school year runs from early September to early June, with class meetings most Sundays from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. A detailed calendar for 2026-2027 is under development, but this years’ calendar may be provided as a model.

Ideal candidates are highly experienced teaching both Judaic studies and Hebrew and have the ability to teach students at various levels. Hourly rate will be commensurate with education and experience, estimated at $180- $250 per week.
