Assistant Director of Education, Grades 7–12 & B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator
The Community Synagogue Religious School engages over 500 students in grades K–12 in a vibrant environment where Jewish learning and living are celebrated. Our goal is to inspire lifelong connections to Judaism through meaningful experiences, caring relationships, and partnership with families.The Assistant Director of Education, Grades 7–12 & B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator, helps bring that vision to life by guiding students and families through their teenage years and the milestone experience of B’nai Mitzvah. This educator fosters a sense of belonging, purpose, and pride as teens explore what it means to live Jewishly. Working closely with the Director of Congregational Education, clergy, and youth staff, this person ensures that every student and family feels supported, known, and inspired throughout their Jewish journey.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as the primary educator and guide for families throughout the B’nai Mitzvah journey, helping create a meaningful, supportive, and well-organized experience.
Lead the 7th grade Torah Study program in partnership with clergy and senior education leadership.
Support students and families through the Mitzvah Project process, providing guidance and oversight.
Create and facilitate learning opportunities for families that deepen understanding of Jewish values, ritual, and meaning connected to the B’nai Mitzvah experience.
Oversee teen learning and engagement programs, including weekly learning, madrichim, and immersive travel experiences.
Develop strategies to encourage post–B’nai Mitzvah engagement and continued teen involvement.
Ensure teen programs are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the synagogue’s educational vision and values.
Supervise and support the Youth Coordinator and collaborate with teen educators and clergy.
Partner with the Director of Congregational Education and clergy on curriculum development, program planning, and visioning.
Serve as a member of the education team, helping to shape culture, mentor staff, and contribute to long-term planning for teen education and engagement.
Communicate proactively with families to ensure clarity, connection, and ongoing engagement throughout the teen years.
Build trusting relationships with families that foster ongoing connection and participation beyond the B’nai Mitzvah year.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience in education, preferably within a Jewish educational or congregational setting.
A passion for working with pre-teens, teens and families and guiding them through Jewish experiences, including the B’nai Mitzvah process.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience planning and leading educational programs or learning experiences.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Leadership experience, including supervising or mentoring.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Jewish Education, Education, or a related field preferred.
A leadership role in a large, vibrant Reform synagogue and Religious School community.
