Description

Congregation Kol Tikvah, a Reform congregation located in Northwest Broward County, is excited to launch a new Aftercare Program in Fall 2026, designed to provide a warm, nurturing, and joyful space where children can unwind after the school day while engaging in play, creativity, and Jewish values. We are seeking an energetic, caring, and organized Aftercare Program Director to help bring this program to life and oversee its daily operations from the ground up.

The ideal candidate loves working with children, is calm and confident in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong relationships with families and staff. You may have experience in aftercare, camp, education, or youth programming and feel comfortable leading a small team while remaining hands-on with kids. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new program and be part of its growth from the very beginning.

Congregation Kol Tikvah is a participant in Cohort IV of the Jewish Kids Group (JKG) “Jewish After School Accelerator” (JASA).  JASA is a nationwide program currently operating in over 18 sites, and provides significant support to cohort participants, including curriculum design/development, training, and more.  This is a full time position, although it maintains non-traditional full-time hours, with your day starting late morning/early afternoon and ending in the early evening.  You will be working directly with our Youth Activities Department team and engaging children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, oversee and implement promotional and recruitment efforts, including parlor meetings, networking and more.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the aftercare program and “school’s out camp day” programming.

  • Supervise students during transitions, snack time, homework, indoor and outdoor play.
  • Implement health, safety, and behavior management policies consistently.

Family Communication

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for aftercare families.
  • Communicate regularly with parents via email, app, phone, and/or in person regarding their child’s day.
  • Support enrollment processes and maintain student records and forms.

Staff Supervision & Support

  • Supervise, support, and mentor aftercare counselors and assistants.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of aftercare staff as needed.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional staff culture.
  • Step in to cover classrooms or activities when needed.

Operations & Coordination

  • Coordinate daily transportation, schedules, staffing, and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and synagogue policies.
  • Manage supplies, snacks, and materials for the program.
  • Collaborate with Kol Tikvah clergy, education staff, and office staff to support program success.
  • Comfortable in working with and engaging key stakeholders in synagogue life.

Jewish Community & Values

  • Help integrate Jewish values, holidays, and traditions into daily programming in age-appropriate ways.
  • Support Kol Tikvah’s mission of building a strong, welcoming Jewish community for families.

General Administrative Support

  • Understanding program budgeting is a plus, but not a necessity
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of incredible professionals, lay leaders and parents

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in an aftercare, camp, school, or youth program setting.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Warm, patient, and reliable with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while staying calm and flexible.
  • Commitment to Jewish community and values (formal Jewish education not required).
  • Ability to pass a level 2 background check, and maintain a valid driver's license.

Benefits

  • A competitive compensation package including an annual salary of $50,000-$60,000 based on experience, as well as health, vision, life and participation in Kol Tikvah’s retirement plan.
  • Supportive, community-centered work environment.
  • Opportunity to be part of an engaged synagogue community at Kol Tikvah.
