Through musical worship, opportunities to come together in education and connection, and acts of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), Congregation Beth Torah offers our diverse congregants’ multiple paths to experience Judaism within our intimate congregation.

Many of our 300+ congregant households have been with Beth Torah since we were founded in 1988. Some joined us only last year. Full Job Description:

The Director of Member Engagement leverages their knowledgeable passion for the Jewish experience to enrich member and potential member interactions with Congregation Beth Torah. This is accomplished through a relational-based approach to member recruitment, engagement, and retention. The right candidate is a connector; someone who connects with congregants and staff, and who helps connect people more deeply with one another, with CBT and with the larger community.

High Level Responsibilities:

• Member Recruitment
  • Recruitment plan development and execution, to include a mutually agreed upon growth target
  • Recruitment programming

• Member Engagement
  • Engagement plan development and execution
  • New member integration
  • Engagement programming – plan and support events planned by other staff and volunteers
  • Volunteer coordination in collaboration with Board Member responsible for Volunteer recruitment

• Member Relations and Retention
  • Retention plan development and execution, to include a mutually agreed upon retention target
  • Assist with the relationship aspect of follow up in lapsed memberships, non-payment of dues commitments
  • Ensure coverage for Friday nights, Saturday mornings, and all life cycle events
  • Track membership database updates by working with other staff members and communicating directly with members

• Community Liasion
  • Plan and execute community wide programs such as the JCC Havdalah
  • Co-host and support programs with other organizations such as Share Shabbat

• Staff activities
  • Teammate vacation coverage
  • Security Initiatives
  • Other responsibilities as they arise

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Extensive knowledge of Reform Jewish values, rituals, customs, life-cycle events, and holiday practices
• Strong people skills to relate effectively with clergy, staff, lay leadership, volunteers, and other members of the congregation
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short- and long-term responsibilities
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, and professionalism
• Bachelors required, Masters preferred - equivalent years of experience would be considered
