Position Overview
The Community Engagement Manager reports to the Executive Director and leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of experiences that connect visitors, prospective members, and current members to Jewish life at Congregation Har HaShem. This role builds relationships, designs pathways for meaningful engagement, and partners with clergy and staff to build a community of belonging that creates meaning in our lives.
This is a full time exempt position and includes working some evenings, weekends, Jewish and secular holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Connect and Welcome
- Build relationships with visitors, prospective members, and current members through personal outreach, phone calls, meetings, and community events.
- Lead synagogue tours and introductory meetings, sharing information about membership, programs, and financial support.
- Onboard new members, help them connect to programs, groups, and volunteer opportunities, and ensure their experience is warm, personal, and meaningful.
Engage and Grow Membership
- Create and implement initiatives to increase membership and deepen engagement among current members.
- Understand members’ needs and interests, and help connect them with relevant experiences, groups, or committees.
- Represent Har HaShem at community events and serve as an ambassador for our mission and values.
Lead Volunteers and Lay Partners
- Strengthen our volunteer program by recruiting, coordinating, and supporting members in meaningful roles across programs and events.
- Develop and oversee volunteer appreciation and recognition efforts.
- Serve as staff liaison for the Membership Engagement Committee and other lay-led adult groups such as Brotherhood, Women of Har HaShem, and the Tikkun Olam (Social Action) Committee.
- Support and advise Chavurot, neighborhood, and interest groups (Tribes) to foster connection and belonging.
Coordinate Programs and Community Events
- Lead or co-lead community-wide programs such as holiday celebrations, Shabbat dinners, and other engagement initiatives that involve large numbers of members and volunteers.
- Manage project timelines, logistics, and volunteer roles to ensure successful execution and meaningful participation.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to promote engagement opportunities and share community stories.
Track, Evaluate, and Improve
- Use our CRM and other tools to track participation, volunteer activity, and engagement trends.
- Gather and analyze data to inform decision-making and measure impact.
- Report regularly to staff, leadership, and the Membership Engagement Committee on engagement outcomes and progress toward goals.
Qualifications:
- Required skills:

- ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, other staff and members
- knowledge of Judaism and the Jewish community or a willingness and ability to learn quickly

- marketing and communications, including writing and strategy development across all media platforms, print and electronic, outbound and social/interactive
- able to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner
Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in customer or member relations, program development, preferably in the Jewish community.
- Experience working with non-profits and/or faith-based communities.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree
- Participation in professional associations and development

Compensation:
The Community Engagement Manager will receive a competitive salary ranging from $45,000-60,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include health, dental, and retirement plan, paid time off including holidays and some Jewish holidays, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
