Golda Och Academy, recognized as one of the top Jewish day schools in the country, is a vibrant learning community that focuses on the individual intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of each child. Our school is located on two campuses — one for the Lower School and one for the Upper School — located about two miles apart in West Orange, serving approximately 450 students from more than 60 communities across New Jersey.

Golda Och Academy Upper School is accepting applications for a dynamic individual to join our Lower School team as the Assistant Principal.


Summary


The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in supervising the day-to-day management of the Lower School’s faculty and staff, helping to ensure that the school’s vision and mission of providing an outstanding secular and Jewish education for its students is implemented and accomplished.  The Assistant Principal is responsible for leading an excellent faculty, maintaining high educational standards, and ensuring excellence in curriculum, teaching, and learning. 

 
Essential Functions

  • Assist the Principal with all tasks and responsibilities related to delivering an outstanding academic and experiential program to students in Pre-K through 5th grades
  • Serve as a resource to the faculty on best practices in education across disciplines
  • Participate in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating faculty, as well as faculty development
  • Identify new programs, academic and social, to enhance the Lower School experience
  • Serve as admission liaison/committee member, proficient in understanding student learning profiles and confident in making recommendations to the committee and parents of prospective students based on student needs and institutional structures and resources
  • Work with the Principal to establish and maintain strong lines of communication with the parent body
  • Serve as ambassador for the Lower School to the wider community

 

Instructional Management

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of current educational programs
  • Pursue and implement the school’s vision of strategic educational initiatives
  • Guide and collaborate with the faculty to develop and maintain subject matter scope and sequences and curricular maps for each grade level
  • Advise on the selection of curricular materials for Early Childhood and serve as a resource for implementation
  • Guide faculty in preparing report cards, including the review and editing of all report card narratives

 

School Climate

  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Enhance the academic, social, emotional and spiritual education of our students in accordance with Jewish values and innovate teaching practice

 

School/Organizational Improvement

  • Assist the Principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators
  • Identify new programs, both academic and social, to expand and enhance the school and Lower School community
  • Participate in development of improvement plans with faculty and staff

 

Employee Management

  • Participate in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating faculty, as well as faculty development
  • Supervise day to day management of the faculty and staff in conjunction with the Principal
  • Collaborate on professional development plans for individual faculty as well as identify and pursue professional development initiatives for the campus as a whole
  • Manage faculty - parent communications, both printed and electronic

 

Student Management

  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable
  • Meet and communicate regularly with faculty, parents, and students
  • Supervise day to day management of students, in conjunction with the Principal
  • Direct 3rd-5th grade Judaic Studies alternate track program
  • Partner on all aspects of student retention
  • Serve as admission liaison/committee member
  • Oversee bus/carpool safety procedures/personnel

 

Successful Candidates Will Possess:

 

  • Advanced degree in Education, Educational Administration, Jewish Education or a related field
  • NJ Teaching Certification preferred
  • A minimum of three years of administrative or supervisory experience
  • A minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience as a lead teacher
  • Demonstrated expertise and ability to provide leadership in teaching and learning across subjects, with a focus on Early Childhood and Elementary education preferred.
  • Outstanding oral and written and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Familiarity with current education technology
  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction and best practices in education vis-a-vis General Studies, Judaic Studies, Mathematics and Specials
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to coordinate school support operations
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
