Position Summary:

The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative officer of Midway Jewish Center, responsible for the overall management of synagogue operations. This includes oversight of finance, facilities, staffing, communications, membership engagement, and coordination with clergy, lay leadership, and the broader Jewish community. The Executive Director ensures that the synagogue functions efficiently and effectively to fulfill its spiritual, educational, and communal mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational & Administrative Management
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the synagogue.
  • Oversee office systems, databases, calendars, and schedules.
  • Supervise administrative and support staff, including performance evaluations and hiring.
  • Support clergy and lay leadership in program and lifecycle event coordination.
  1. Financial Oversight
  • Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Treasurer and Finance Committee.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with external accountants or auditors as needed.
  • Manage membership dues, fundraising initiatives, and other revenue streams.
  1. Facilities Management
  • Oversee maintenance, safety, and security of synagogue buildings and grounds.
  • Manage relationships with contractors, custodians, and vendors.
  • Ensure facilities are ready for worship services, educational programs, and events.
  1. Membership & Community Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective members.
  • Support membership growth, retention, and engagement efforts.
  • Ensure effective communication through newsletters, social media, and the synagogue website.
  1. Board & Committee Support
  • Work closely with the Board of Trustees and committee chairs to implement policies and strategic initiatives.
  • Attend board meetings; prepare and present reports as required.
  • Maintain governance documents and ensure compliance with bylaws and legal requirements.
  1. High Holiday & Event Coordination
  • Coordinate logistics for High Holiday services, b’nai mitzvahs, weddings, funerals, and other major events.
  • Ensure proper staffing, materials, and facilities support for all lifecycle and community events.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time exempt position. MJC offers vacation and sick-leave benefits

Competitive Salary negotiable based on experience – $100k+

Medical Benefits – MJC will cover 2/3 of medical coverage

 

Hours/Time Off:

Anticipated work hours shall include business hours while the MJC Office is open during weekdays, as well as weeknight meetings of the Board, Executive Committee, and other relevant leadership and lay meetings and functions, plus attendance as required at special shul functions. Employee may schedule workday absences to ensure proper work/life balance.
