Cantor/Cantorial Soloist/Song Leader

We are a progressive and vibrant suburban synagogue on Long Island‘s south shore with approximately 140 households in our congregation.  We are seeking a part-time cantor, cantorial soloist, or song leader starting after the High Holidays. 

 The ideal candidate will engage the congregation spiritually, encourage communal participation, and explore new ways for congregants to experience Judaism through a variety of music. The candidate should be personable, professional, warm, and engaging.  Principally, this individual will, together with the Rabbi, plan and lead certain Shabbat and festival services. Additional opportunities may be available to bring music and liturgical instruction to the Sunday morning religious school students, train Bet Mitzvah students, and/or oversee professional and congregational musicians for services and activities.  The candidate is expected to be available and in person for holiday and festival services, and for 1-2 Saturday mornings a month. Proficiency in chanting Torah and Haftarah preferred, but not required.
