Description

Westchester Jewish Center Religious School seeks a warm, flexible, and collaborative individual who enjoys working with children and thrives as part of a team. The Assistant Religious School Principal plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the school while helping to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment for students, families, and staff. Rooted in our vision, this role helps cultivate a community where young Jewish learners are inspired to joyfully explore and deepen their connection to Judaism, and where families feel a strong sense of belonging and purpose.

Our Religious School meets on Sunday mornings from 10 - 12 pm, Tuesday afternoons from 3:45 - 6:00 pm and Wednesday afternoons from 3:45 - 7:00 pm.  We are seeking an assistant principal that will be present 14 hours a week on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. 

Hours for Assistant Principal**

Sunday 9:00am – 12:30pm

Tuesday 2:00pm – 7:30pm

Wednesday 1:00pm – 6:30pm

**Opportunities for more administrative hours, if interested

Responsibilities include:

Weekly:

  • Participation in Tefillot on each school day.
  • Teach 7th grade students on Tuesday afternoons, as needed
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment as students arrive
  • Supervise student dismissal

Monthly:

  • Join the school community and provide staff support during the Religious School Shabbat program (first Shabbat of the month)
  • Collaborate with the Director to plan and execute school-wide holiday programs

Yearly / Ongoing:

  • Partner with the Director on curriculum development, classroom observations, and teacher mentoring
  • Serve as a substitute teacher or provide classroom coverage as needed
  • Coordinate substitute coverage when teachers are absent, including securing lesson plans (Sunday–Thursday)
  • Attend and volunteer at the WJC Purim Carnival

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; team-oriented and flexible
  • Enjoyment of working with children in an educational setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ShulCloud, and Constant Contact
  • Ability to read Hebrew
