Beth El Temple is the largest Conservative synagogue in CT, with its history of serving Greater Hartford’s Jewish Community for more than 75 years. We are respected for our passionate rabbinic leadership, with top-of-the-line technology and security services, an excellent event facility, with a membership base of more than 780 multi-generational families, and a deep pride in our legacy.

WHO ARE YOU?

You will coach, lead and direct all Marketing and Communications playing a critical role in promoting Beth El’s mission, events and programs through the implementation and development of effective marketing strategies. You are passionate about community engagement, with an empathetic and strategic mindset to work collaboratively as a creative digital storyteller. You will establish priorities, communicate progress by establishing measures to assess the impact, quality, and timeliness of the results to the clergy, professional staff, the Board and lay leadership.

Through your communications you will drive community and member engagement while culturally promoting Jewish values/educational programming and engaging members. You will be open to working very occasional evenings and when urgent and unexpected national or international events may occur requiring frequent communications. Above all, integrity, creativity, dedication to excellence, astute listening and professionalism must always be a constant when engaging with diverse individuals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media and Content Creation

  • Develop and execute a dynamic advanced social media strategy (Facebook, Instagram, You Tube) on emerging platforms to reflect the synagogue’s mission and values.
  • Create high-quality, engaging content-including photos, reels, and short-form video content, storytelling-highlighting the religious holidays and celebrations, lifecycle and fundraising events, religious school (SULAM) updates, community initiatives and membership drives.
  • Manage the website, email marketing and stay abreast of community conversations while collaborating with other area synagogues and organizations. InDesign and ShulCloud a plus.
  • Graphic designs and digital assets should be visually appealing, clear cut using tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Copywriting should be warm, inclusive with action-oriented captions and descriptions for newsletter, event flyers, press releases and weekly Shabbat pamphlet.

 

 

 

 

Digital Marketing and Technology

  • Syncing marketing efforts with synagogue management software (CRM) to track member engagement and digital metrics.
  • Website management includes updating calendars, event pages, promotional pieces and checking the Community Calendar to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Tailoring specific campaigns to distinct demographic groups.
  • Manage crisis communications regarding sensitive community issues, security announcements or political controversies gracefully.
  • Ensure all messaging aligns with Beth El values and mission and the broader Greater Hartford Jewish Community.

 

Qualifications

  • Batchelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Maintaining strict Confidentiality
  • Hybrid preferred, with remote options
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in marketing, PR, digital communications, or social media management (nonprofit or religious organization experience a plus)
  • Exceptional copywriting, proofreading, editing skills and use of multi digital platforms.
  • Intermediate skills with CRM platforms, email marketing tools and graphic design software and video editing a must. (Canva, Web Design, InDesign and Shul Cloud- a plus, will train) AI technology tools
  • A willingness to become familiar with Jewish traditions, holidays and synagogue culture is a significant plus but not required. We work in a non-sectarian environment.
  • Ability to promote and managing hybrid event support, to include livestreamed services, programs and Zoom webinars.
  • Time management, organization, communication skills, teamwork, intermediate writing and critical thinking skills.
  • Highly capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines.

  • $75-90 K compensation, commensurate with experience
  • Full time position M-F (36 hrs./week), occasional evening or weekend required for special programs and events
