Jewish Actionis the Orthodox Union’s quarterly family magazine. Our goal is to produce a high-quality, intellectually sophisticated and relevant publication that conveys Orthodox Jewish values and concerns in a way that will enlighten, educate and inspire our readers. We aim to attract the best writers and thinkers in the Orthodox Jewish world and to provide lively and thought-provoking articles about issues that affect Orthodox Jewish life today.
 
 
Position Summary:
We are seeking a self-motivated and creative Associate Editor. This position reports directly to the Editor-in-Chief, and entails writing, editing and proofreading our print as well as our digital content. In addition, the candidate will handle various administrative aspects. Candidate must be a hard worker and a quick learner.   
 
 
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  •  Write, copyedit and proofread articles, headlines, blurbs and digital content
  •  Research and write high-quality, accurate and engaging content for digital publications
  •  Factcheck and help implement and maintain publication’s editorial style guide
  •  Be responsible for administrative duties including: 
    •  Responding to reader inquiries and submissions;  
    •  Submitting invoices to accounting;  
    •  Maintaining records 
    •  Overseeing aspects of distribution and production  
  •  Other related tasks as needed  
 
Qualification Requirements:
  •  Bachelor’s in journalism, communications or related field 
  •  Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  •  In-depth understanding of Orthodox Judaism and terminology 
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and WordPress a plus
  
Salary and Benefits: 
The salary for this position is $45,000-$50,000.
