Description

The Providence Community Beit Midrash of Rhode Island (CBM) is a startup Jewish engagement and education organization that serves 6th - 12th graders in and around Providence, Rhode Island. Through a blend of social programs, educational offerings, and community experiences, CBM has grown steadily since its inception in 2020, and intends to continue that trajectory with the help of a Program Director

Position Description

Reporting to the lay co-founder, Aliza Krieger and the CBM Board, the Program Director will develop and enhance the formal infrastructure for CBM to continue to grow in the coming months and years.

The Program Director will lead the following:

 Vision

  • Learning what the current goals of CBM board, parents and community want in learning for pre-teens and teenagers and helping guide that vision. This will entail networking to connect with key stakeholders in order to better understand the needs and goals of the community.  This person should have a background in Jewish education to help guide the development of curriculum and programming.

Marketing

  • Spread the word about CBM through direct outreach to potential participant families, broader marketing efforts such as placement of articles in Jewish Rhody (newspaper), social media engagement, creating flyers and coordinating with partner organizations to distribute them, and maintaining CBM’s website.

Fundraising

  • Grant writing in collaboration with board members to continue funding this position and program. This program currently runs on tuition, donations, and a small allocation from the Jewish Alliance

Communication

  • Serve as the main communication hub for all current participants, potential participant families, faculty, community partners, and lay board. This will include regular emails to all parties, utilizing appropriate technological platforms (i.e. Google Calendar invites, Google Docs, etc) as needed to ensure efficient, clear, and timely communication. CBM parents are busy and often pulled in many directions for their children’s activities, faculty members are partially volunteering their time while also doing their full-time jobs and parenting young kids, and the board is mostly composed of these same busy parents. Therefore, tailoring a communication plan around these constituents is critical to the Project Director’s success in this role.

Logistics

  • Plan and organize locations, time, and faculty presence for all gatherings, including Wednesday afternoons, Saturday afternoons, and Sunday morning events. This includes reserving space, coordinating with host families, working with faculty members and lay leaders to ensure smooth and successful event planning. In addition, this includes organizing weekly dinner, set up and clean up for Wednesday dinners, and shopping and setting up for Sunday learning.
  • Together, with CBM Treasurer, manage the budget including the payments to our educators.
  • This person should be detailed and organized

This is an in-person, part time job, expected 5-10 hrs/wk at 40-50$/hr

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, prioritizes building strong relationships, loves problem-solving, and is passionate about Judaism and Jewish education. This person will be comfortable with ambiguity, and dedicated to being a team-player. The hope is that this person will grow to feel a sense of ownership for CBM and bring joyful creativity to growing it.
