Maor offers a variety of programs for students and families in the community, including: an elementary school program for students ages 5-15; advocacy services for families; a center for professional training and development; and an inclusive preschool for children ages 18 months to 5 years.

Job Overview

The general studies lead special education teacher (“Lead teacher”) is responsible for planning, developing, adapting, delivering and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, including curriculum and other learning programs and instruction, for all school age students with special needs at Maor in collaboration with other school personnel. Success in this position means students are supported daily. The Lead teacher reports directly to the Elementary School Director (“School Director”) and the Executive Director.  

Essential Functions 

1. Mentors and works collaboratively with the Co Lead teacher for a specific group of students assigned to the classroom.

2. Identifies the needs of assigned students through formal and informal assessments.

3. Reviews history, referral, and assessment data to develop appropriate goals and objectives for each student.

4. Meets and confers regularly with the School Director regarding the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs and goals of each student.

5. Plans, develops, implements, and adapts individualized learning plans for each student in collaboration with the School Director and the Co Lead teacher.

6. Designs appropriate teaching strategies alongside the Co Lead teacher.

7. Prepares lesson plans and instructional materials in accordance with each student’s Individual Educational Plan (“IEP”).

8. Reviews IEP’s with parents, School Director, Co Lead teacher, and other staff and providers.

9. Utilizes appropriate methods of instruction and learning delivery to meet the needs of each student.

10. Monitors, evaluates, and documents student progress utilizing appropriate measurements and assessment tools alongside the School Director.

11. Prepares timely student progress reports.

12. Develops and implements necessary interventions and strategies to promote achievement of student objectives as demarcated by the School Director.

13. Collaborates and consults with the School Director, Co Lead teacher, and other staff and providers regarding implementation of student IEP’s and special educational services.

14. With guidance from the School Director, modifies and adapts state standards curriculum and educational programs to meet individual student’s needs.

15. Maintains regular communication with parents via email, phone calls, conferences and progress reports.

16. Assists parents with understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations, and behavioral standards.

17. Works alongside the BCBA and RBT’s to manage student behavior through monitoring, supervising and assessing behavioral patterns. 

18. Utilizes appropriate corrective methods to modify student behavior.

19. Helps implement Behavioral Intervention Plans.

20. Instructs students on socially acceptable behaviors and personal development skills.

21. Maintains accurate and complete records.

22. Stays current on  best practices and trends in special education.

Preferred Qualifications, Requirement and Skills:

1. Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Education or Special Education.

2. Certification in Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Special Needs.

3. A compassionate and confident leader.

4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

5. Completes and renews CPR/First Aid certification (adult and pediatrics).

6. Experience in effective classroom and student behavior management.

7. Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies.

8. Completes Mandated Reporter training.

9. Completes sexual harassment prevention training.

10. Follows all Maor safety and COVID protocols.

11. Proficient computer skills.

12. Experience working with students with various special needs.

13. Exceptional time management skills.

14. Continued Education Programs
