Description

N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, the Jewish Community Day School in Birmingham, Alabama, is seeking a warm, engaging, and passionate Lower School Judaics Teacher to inspire students in Torah learning and Jewish living. This role focuses on nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually—while cultivating a joyful and meaningful connection to Judaism.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach core Judaics subjects including Torah, Parashat HaShavua, Jewish holidays (Chagim), Tefilah (prayer), middot (Jewish values),  mitzvot, and Jewish traditions
  • Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that encourage curiosity, discussion, and hands-on learning
  • Facilitate Tefilah  experiences in age-appropriate and meaningful ways
  • Differentiate instruction to support a range of learners, including enrichment and accommodations
  • Foster a classroom culture rooted in kindness, respect, and community
  • Monitor and document student growth through ongoing assessment and reflection
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and Judaics colleagues to plan curriculum and integrate learning across disciplines
  • Serve as part of the team that creates and implements Jewish holiday and other school events. 
  • Partner with families through clear, warm, and consistent communication
  • Participate actively in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide programming
  • Embrace feedback and engage in reflective teaching practice
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Judaic Studies, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience, preferably in a Jewish Day School setting
  • Familiarity with child-centered and experiential Judaics instruction
  • Hebrew reading ability and basic conversational Hebrew preferred
