The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor is seeking a creative, dynamic collaborator to join its energetic team as LIFE & LEGACY Manager.

This position plays an integral role in the advancement of the Federation’s mission with a focus on overseeing this pivotal program to develop a culture of legacy giving and stewardship in the local Jewish community.

Located in southeast Michigan, Ann Arbor is a vibrant and energetic college town famous for the University of Michigan, its beautiful parks and nature areas and cultural offerings. Ann Arbor boasts a lively downtown, low crime, a healthy economy, regular festivals, robust public transit, and strong, diverse schools and neighborhoods. As a result, it is consistently rated highly on lists of small cities and was named by as the 2017 best city to live in America. The greater Ann Arbor community encompasses Ypsilanti, the lively and diverse home of Eastern Michigan University, and several warm and welcoming small towns including Saline, Dexter, and Chelsea.

The greater Ann Arbor Jewish community has a population of approximately 8,000 representing about 2,500 households. The community is strong and diverse with congregations representing a broad spectrum of Jewish communal life, a warm and educationally exceptional Jewish elementary school, a thriving Jewish Community Center, and a robust and compassionate Jewish Family Services.

The mission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor is to provide and inspire philanthropic leadership and community-building to nurture a strong, engaged, connected, vibrant and enduring Jewish community locally, in Israel and around the world. The most recent annual campaign raised $1.4 million, and the community’s endowment stands at nearly $6.5 million.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the LIFE & LEGACY Manager (60% FTE) is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the LIFE & LEGACY program including planning and executing all local training sessions, events and meetings, coordinating consultant visits, implementing community marketing efforts, ensuring accurate reporting, and supporting participating organizations and congregations to achieve their goals to continue LIFE & LEGACY’s success in the greater Ann Arbor Jewish community.

The full-time role would include operational and administrative leadership of the Jewish Community Foundation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (60%FTE)

  • Serve as local coach, mentor and administrator of the program
  • Support the teams in their efforts to have successful legacy conversations, execute their legacy plans and reach their goals
  • Regularly communicate with legacy team members about trainings, best practices, upcoming Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) events, etc.
  • Coordinate quarterly reporting process and ensure timely submission of all required documents and information to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) on a timely basis
  • Track actual expenses against budget for year-end reporting purposes
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of letters of intent and formalized legacy commitments
  • Coordinate logistics for all LIFE & LEGACY trainings and meetings with HGF staff
  • Lead a professional and volunteer team in planning an annual community LIFE & LEGACY Celebration
  • In partnership with Executive Director and other team members, coordinate work of the Federation LIFE & LEGACY team.
  • Meet regularly (recommended twice a month initially) with HGF Staff to keep program on track and trouble shoot emergent issues
  • Coordinate community-wide marketing efforts, in partnership with the Federation’s Communications & Development Manager
  • Maintain administrative system to track information requested and received from individual teams
  • Maintain yearly calendar of important dates, including events, visits and other programs
  • Maintain filing system for all legacy commitments received and any other pertinent documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Promote the mission of Federation & Foundation at all times through superior customer service to all and through the efficient use of and care of all resources
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, community events as needed, and professional development seminars and conferences as needed

 Additional Responsibilities - Full-Time Position

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director of the Federation/Foundation and Accounting Manager, handle the operations and administration of the Jewish Community Foundation
  • Coordinate and participate in facilitation of Foundation Committee meetings and other committee work
  • Lead the Federation LIFE & LEGACY Team
  • Draft endowment documents for new funds
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Foundation files including donor follow-up
  • Assist with donor relations
  • Clearly answer questions about Federation/Foundation and Endowment process and policies.

Competencies and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, relationship-building and leadership skills with a proven ability to interact effectively with a diverse body of lay leaders, professional staff and other stakeholders.
  • Creative thinker, quick learner, and team player with excellent problem solving and analytical skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and meticulous attention to detail and follow-up
  • Strong computer skills, including competency in Microsoft Excel and/or other spreadsheets and databases
  • Experience with Publisher, Canva or other design software helpful
  • Experience with MailChimp or other communications platforms helpful
  • Involvement in and/or knowledge of the Jewish community helpful
  • Must have access to a car and provide proof of a current driver’s license and registration

Covid-related policies

  • Employees must be vaccinated. In case of extenuating medical-related circumstances, a weekly Covid test will be required
  • Federation employees work in the offices based at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Remote work is an option on Mondays & Fridays
  • Federation employees comply with all JCC Covid policies including entry questionnaire and mask wearing in public areas

Salary Range

PT (60%FTE): $28,000-$32000
FT: $48,000-$53,000
