Title: Part-Time Teacher
Reports to: After School Program Coordinator
Position Type: Part Time

Position Overview

Club Shemesh (Sun Club), a program for K-5 after care community steps away from downtown South Orange in the Seton Village neighborhood, is seeking a Lead Teacher to help launch the program in the 2026-2027 school year. The new program blends after school enrichment with Jewish education and an experiential Hebrew curriculum. Club Shemesh provides children with an engaging environment that is responsive to their developmental levels and supports their continual growth while providing a new opportunity to connect, learn, and play in a welcoming Jewish environment.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, a nurturing demeanor, and a deep commitment to supporting elementary aged children and their families. Candidates should enjoy working collaboratively, be comfortable spending time outdoors in all sorts of weather, and adhere to the belief that children are capable learners who deserve to be treated with respect and integrity.
Ideally the Lead Teacher can work 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, but a 3 or 4 day a week schedule is possible for the right candidate.

Rate is $25 per hour and pay raises will be awarded based on performance review. The position begins mid-August.
Teaching Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include and are not limited to:
? As a teacher, you will help execute meaningful, engaging activities that reflect the specific learning goals outlined in the provided curriculum. You’ll have a Curriculum Map and lots of ideas to guide you, and you'll be surrounded by a smart and inspiring group of peer educators.

? Set up and guide warm and exciting “invitations to play” inspired by Jewish values and kids interests.
? Work with the Director of Education and the After School Program Coordinator to assist in creating and facilitating Judaic and Hebrew lessons through games, activities, and movement. The teacher will be involved with the JASA grant requirements to ensure they are being fulfilled.
? Be present and active through the duration of time with students from picking them up from school through their caregivers picking them up from Club Shemesh.
? Complete tasks under the Director of Education and the After School Coordinator including but not limited to:
? Document lesson plans and student learning.
? Attend Club Shemesh community building events.
? Play an active role in daily preparation.
? Participate in transporting students from local schools. Transportation options include walking, driving or being driven by a third party.
? Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and ongoing trainings.
? Create a warm and welcoming environment for children and families, maintaining open communication with parents.

 

After School Program Support
The After School Program Coordinator will work closely with you to outline which site-specific tasks and responsibilities you will take on. Examples include, but are not limited to:
? Work closely with the After School Program Coordinator to order or purchase supplies and special program supplies.
? Work with the Director of Education and After School Program Coordinator to facilitate new initiatives to bring more Judaism and Hebrew into the day-to-day schedule, i.e. imbuing Z’man Kehilah, community time, with more Hebrew and Judaics, coming up with new ways to encourage students/teachers to use the Hebrew words on the schedule, re-incorporating Hebrew Word of the Week, weekly Torah portion activities, and other initiatives.
? Assist in organizing the Club Shemesh space on a regular basis.
? Assist the After School Program Coordinator in designing and executing high-quality, special programming for families to help build community within the Club Shemesh program, i.e. Back-to-School Night, Shabbat Potlucks, End of Year Ceremony, and others.
? Work with the After School Program Coordinator on needs related to facilities, maintenance, and vendor management throughout the year.
?Transportation support as needed, including vehicle maintenance, car washes, and general school year readiness.
? Help plan, prepare, and facilitate School’s Out Camp days (scheduled when South Orange Maplewood School District schools have a 4-hour day), including:
? Work with the Director of Education and After School Program Coordinator to ensure camp programming is high-quality and infuses Judaism into each camp day.
? Set up the facility and assist with ordering supplies.
? Any other responsibilities that fall under the after school program umbrella, including special projects or new initiatives as needed.

 

Candidate Requirements Include:
? A love for working with children.
? Must have experience working with children in a group setting (classroom, camp, enrichment program, etc).
? Experience working in special education or with neurodiverse children is a plus.
? Ability to read and write Hebrew is a plus.
? Prior experience with a Reggio-inspired program is a plus.
? Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
? Must be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
? Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements including a background check and fingerprinting.
? Teacher certificate or college degree is a plus.
