About the Kindness Initiative 

The Kindness Initiative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families in the San Diego Jewish community who are navigating the challenges of poverty. We pride ourselves on a unique concierge service model, offering wraparound case management, supportive programs, and vital connections to community resources. 

Position Summary 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Case Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to individuals facing various challenges. This position requires a strong background in crisis intervention, as well as experience in social work and motivational interviewing. The Case Manager will work collaboratively with clients to develop personalized plans that promote self-sufficiency. 

Key Responsibilities 

Member Support and Case Management 

  • Conduct intake calls and assessments to identify Member needs. 
  • Develop and monitor individualized service plans with SMART goals. 
  • Perform regular re-assessments to track progress and eligibility. 
  • Provide wraparound case management by coordinating with external organizations. 
  • Advocate for Members with community organizations and service providers. 
  • Facilitate support groups or workshops to promote Member growth. 
  • Treat Members with compassion, dignity, and cultural sensitivity. 

Program Support and Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate, timely records in designated systems. 
  • Coordinate with support staff and KI "Angel" Volunteers to align with service plans. 
  • Uphold strict confidentiality of Member information per KI protocols. 
  • Expand KI’s resource network to meet diverse Member needs. 
  • Support cross-referrals with the Kindness G’MACH. 
  • Attend weekly and monthly case management team meetings. 

Qualifications, Education and Experience 

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field. 
  • Preferred: Master’s degree. 
  • 5+ years of case management experience, including assessment, service planning, and crisis intervention. 
  • Proven skills in client advocacy, outreach, and resource coordination. 
  • Knowledge of community resources addressing diverse needs. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Commitment to alleviating poverty in San Diego’s Jewish community. 
  • Compassionate, patient, and culturally sensitive, with knowledge of Jewish culture (preferred). 
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, and time management skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing tasks and maintaining accurate records. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters non-judgmentally and maintain confidentiality. 
  • Experience working with diverse demographics and basic budgeting principles. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management software (training provided). 

Position Structure 

  • Reports to: Director of Member Services 
  • Hours: 40 hours/week, full-time, in-office with occasional off-site meetings and ~10% travel to Member locations. Limited remote work flexibility. 
  • Location: Candidates must reside in or relocate to the San Diego area. 
  • Work Environment: Emotionally demanding role with regular supervision and team support. 
  • Salary: $30-$33/hour, based on experience, with growth opportunities. 
  • Benefits: Health insurance, Paid Time Off, and observance of Jewish and national holidays.
