Overview:
Temple Sinai in Cranston, Rhode Island is seeking a part-time (approx. 24 hrs/week) in-person Temple Administrator. The administrator will manage the Temple's office and finances, support the clergy, and maintain contact with Temple members. As front desk interface staff, a warm and welcoming personality is essential.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, comfortable in communicating with congregants, collaborating with lay leaders, clergy, and other Temple staff, and passionate about working within a busy religious community. The Temple Administrator must be willing to roll up their sleeves with a positive can-do attitude and be able to shift priorities when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
~ Administrative Functions
- Collaborates with Temple officials to create policies and procedures as needed. Serves as an advisor and coordinator on all aspects of the Temple’s relationship with its members.
- Assists prospective members with membership application, dues structure, and religious school fees. Works with Rabbi to update the membership packet.
- Manages the Temple’s calendar for events, security needs, RSVP/fee collection, and required physical set up.
- Supervises the Temple custodian to ensure that the building is properly maintained. Coordinates with fire inspectors to schedule inspections for compliance with the fire code.
- Receives and responds to all incoming calls and emails.
- Assists the clergy in High Holy Days preparation (sending out tickets to paid up members, paying choir, handling chair rentals, etc.)
- Sends out yahrzeit notifications, prepare monthly and weekly yahrzeit lists.
- Attends Board meetings and keeps the President and the Board informed on matters that they supervise.
- Meets with the Director of Education and Committee chairs to assist in achieving department/committee objectives.
- Coordinates bidding and contracts with vendors.
- Tracks and executes ongoing physical plant projects at the Temple and on Temple grounds.
~ Financial Functions
- Oversees accounts receivable (dues collection, fees, assessments) and accounts payable (vendor payments, payroll). Works with the Finance Committee in its oversight of the Temple’s income and spending.
- Enters all financial transactions in the Temple’s financial software system.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
- 3-5 years of leadership experience, ideally within a synagogue or Jewish nonprofit organization
- Proven ability to manage budgets, accounting software (i.e.Rakefet), payroll, and fundraising.
- Operation and Facility Management:
- Experience in overseeing building maintenance, security vendors, and rental scheduling.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:
- Exceptional communication skills to lead staff, collaborate with lay leaders, and support congregational volunteers.
- Some familiarity with the Jewish calendar, rituals, and holidays is preferred.
- Availability to work on some evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
Hours and Salary:
- In-person at Temple Sinai in Cranston
- Salary - $25-$28/hour, to commensurate with experience
- Typical Hours: Monday 9:00am-3:00pm, Tuesday 9:00am-3:00pm, Wednesday 9:00am-12:00pm, Thursday 9:00am-3:00pm, Friday 9:00am-12:00pm.
Hours may be adjusted to accommodate evening meeting schedules. More hours as needed during High Holidays and other peak volume times.
