About the Programs 

Temple Emanuel’s Kesher Afterschool Program is a warm, engaging, Hebrew-immersive Jewish learning environment for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. We blend language, culture, and community through play, learning, and meaningful Jewish experiences. 

Temple Emanuel’s Religious School provides our students with a meaningful and substantive academic program enriched by exposure to all aspects of Jewish life and culture. 

Position Overview 

We are seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible individual to join our team as K-1 teacher in our Hebrew-immersive afterschool program (Kesher).   

This position can be combined with a role in Temple Emanuel’s Religious School 

Both roles involve classroom and supervisory responsibilities, supporting children’s social, emotional, and educational growth in a nurturing Jewish setting. 

Schedule: 

  • Kesher afterschool: Mondays & Wednesdays: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM 
  • TE Religious School: Sundays: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM  

                                                     (9:00 arrival and planning time at home) 

                      Optional: Thursdays: 2:00-6:00 

Key Kesher Responsibilities: 

  • Teach Ivrit (Hebrew) and Yahadut (Judaic Studies) in a mixed K-1 classroom. 
  • Participate in faculty meetings, supervision/coaching, and professional development. 
  • Collaboratively plan lessons on site. 
  • Prepare biannual report cards. 
  • Teach Hebrew-infused electives (chugim). 
  • Assist with Ha’ashara (enrichment) , T’nuah (movement), Shira (music), Rikud (dance) and the Machazemer (musical theater). 
  • Support and help lead all-school assemblies. 
  • Help facilitate Kesher family programs. 
  • Manage elementary age-afterschool responsibilities including attendance, free time supervision, snack, toileting support, informal activity leadership, and arrival/dismissal supervision. 
  • Lead a supervised walking group or van route. 
  • Contribute to end-of-day cleanup of classrooms, hallways, shared spaces, and outdoor areas. 

Key Religious School Responsibilities: 

  • Teach Gan (Kindergarten) on Sundays, which includes Hebrew alphabet and Judaic studies. 
  • Participate in faculty meetings (about once a month) 
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences twice a year.  
  • Mentor classroom teen madrichim (helpers) 

Optional: 

  • In-house sub and Hebrew coach on Thursdays for grades 2-6.  

Salary range: $20,000-$40,000 based on hours and experience.
