Congregation Micah is a dynamic, inclusive Reform synagogue rooted in Jewish tradition and committed to building meaningful community and repairing the world. We believe in authenticity, innovation, and hospitality. We are seeking a warm, proactive, and highly intuitive Member & Community Engagement Director to help connect individuals and families to Jewish life at Micah and beyond.

Position Summary
The Membership & Community Engagement Director is a relationship-centered, strategic team member who guides people from their first interaction with Micah through meaningful, long-term engagement. This role oversees new member outreach, stewardship of current members, volunteer coordination, and development activities that help sustain Micah’s mission and vision.

The person in this role will work closely with the Clergy, Executive Director, Program & Events Coordinator, and lay leadership to create a welcoming, connected, and financially strong community. They will blend relational warmth with strategic follow-through, making sure every member feels seen, valued, and invited to contribute in ways that match their passions and abilities.

This role requires a high degree of emotional intelligence, Jewish literacy, and a willingness to step in wherever needed, whether organizing a committee, greeting someone at the door, following up with a prospective member, or cultivating a donor relationship.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Engagement & Outreach

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective members and guide them through a welcoming onboarding process.
  • Build individual relationships with members and help them find meaningful connections at Micah.
  • Develop and implement strategic outreach and in-reach plans that reflect Micah’s values and membership goals.
  • Represent Micah at events such as Jewish communal events, community holiday celebrations, interfaith gatherings, Pride, etc.
  • Proactively seek partnerships with local Jewish and interfaith groups to strengthen community connections and help grow membership. Maintain and track member engagement data.
  • Organize and support membership activities, including welcome events, small groups, outreach, and follow-ups.

Membership Stewardship

  • Work with lay leadership to cultivate, solicit, and steward member gifts and annual pledges.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, ensuring they feel appreciated and informed about the impact of their giving.
  • Support annual fundraising campaigns, special projects, and events, including donor recognition and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with the Fundraiser Committee to develop and implement strategies that align with Micah’s culture and annual calendar.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and track giving history to inform outreach and stewardship efforts.
  • After developing familiarity with Micah’s community, this role will expand to include development efforts that foster generosity, engage supporters, and strengthen relationships across our congregation.

Volunteer & Committee Coordination

  • Coordinate and oversee the Membership Committee, including scheduling meetings, setting agendas, and ensuring follow-up.
  • Serve as staff lead for the Micah Cares Committee, supporting volunteer outreach to members experiencing illness, loss, or a lifecycle moment.
  • Engage and support volunteers through opportunities such as Greeters, Micah Bakers, Social Action, and other programs that build connection. Match members with volunteer opportunities that align with their interests and availability.

Administrative & Collaborative Support

  • Support the Executive Director and clergy with administrative tasks related to membership, donor relations, and event follow-up.
  • Provide general office support (e.g., reception, phone calls, and preparing materials) during high-volume periods.
  • Assist with logistics for membership or donor-related gatherings, including lifecycle events and special celebrations.

 Who You Are

  • Relationally intuitive – You understand people, know how to listen, and can match members with the experiences they’re seeking
  • Proactive and visible – You seek opportunities to represent Micah in the community and don’t wait to be asked to step in
  • Collaborative and strategic – You enjoy working with others to bring big-picture vision to life through coordinated, thoughtful action
  • Jewishly literate – You are fluent in Jewish culture, holidays, and life-cycle practices, and can comfortably answer questions and guide members through Jewish community life
  • Creative and organized – You’re both a people person and a planner, with an eye for detail and a head full of ideas
