The Community Synagogue L’Dor V’Dor Early Childhood Center seeks an Assistant Director for a fast-paced, busy preschool, serving children ages 18 months to 5 years. The Assistant Director will support the preschool Director in the day-to-day operations of the school. 

What we are looking for: Our ideal candidate is an experienced educator who is knowledgeable about early childhood development and its application to an emergent curriculum. As a member of the school leadership team, this person must be self-motivated and deeply invested in fostering connections with students, families, faculty and prospective families.They should enjoy being an accessible participant in the school community with a warm and dynamic presence, and the ability to balance multiple projects at once. 

The Assistant Director supports our nurturing, supportive community - helping children, families and faculty grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically and spiritually through a child-centered, developmentally appropriate approach. 

This position provides an opportunity to grow as an educational leader, as a program innovator and as an administrator.

What you will do: The Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting with the oversight and management of the daily operations. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assist in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and professional development of staff 
  • Support the implementation of preschool curriculum/initiatives in classrooms, helping to ensure consistency throughout the program
  • Establish and maintain positive and professional communications with current and prospective families, students, and faculty
  • Oversee Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements
  • Manage school supplies, equipment and inventory 
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of marketing efforts, including school and camp registration, community special events and family programs
  • Assist in early childhood classrooms as needed

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required, Masters preferred 
  • A proven record of working effectively with children and families
  • Deep understanding of developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education
  • Commitment to the school’s vision and mission 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Organizational and project management skills, including delegation and prioritization
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for special programs 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a team player

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience. 

Hours: 8:00am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday.
