Part-Time, Temporary Payroll and Benefits Manager

Hillel International

Hillel International is looking for a Part-Time, Temporary Payroll and Benefits Manager to help support Hillel International’s Human Resources operations and administration. This critical, customer-facing role provides payroll and benefits support and guidance to over 100 local Hillels throughout the United States and supports payroll and benefits administration at the Schusterman International Center, Hillel International’s support center. This is a 20-hour per week, temporary position on the Strategic HR team, reporting to our Associate Director of HR Administration. We anticipate this being a 6 month assignment, with the possibility of an extension. 

Location: Preference for Austin, TX or Washington, D.C., to work near other Schusterman International Center Strategic HR professionals.

What you’ll do:

  • Work as part of a collaborative team handling HR Operations, Payroll and Benefits support – team and work will be distributed to best support organizational needs

  • Support payroll processing and troubleshoot payroll errors for over 100 local Hillels and processing payroll biweekly for the Schusterman International Center

  • Audit employee profiles for errors including checklists, personnel action forms and maintaining overall data integrity

  • Onboard and train new system users, scheduling 1:1 trainings and hosting webinars and office hours as needed

  • Create user guides for Payroll Admins in order to implement movement wide payroll best practices

  • Plan, develop, test, rollout and support various system-based initiatives, including open enrollment, State Sick Leave, Paid Family Leave and other projects as assigned

  • Administer our Workers’ Compensation insurance policy

  • Collaborate with Finance and IT to ensure accurate, timely and efficient processing of business transactions

  • Annual Open Enrollment Setup and processing

  • Provide parental leave support including leave analysis and coordination of state benefits

  • Benefits billing reconciliation and payment

 What you’ll bring:

  •  BA required, as is 3-5 years of professional experience in the HR space

  • Previous HRIS, Benefits and Payroll experience, including knowledge of applicable multi state and federal HR, payroll and benefits laws

  • Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships with a focus on customer service and support

  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, maintaining focus and adhering to deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfort rolling up sleeves to get things done

  • Proven success with multi-tasking and working collaboratively as part of a team

  • A genuine respect for the diversity of Jewish life.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office suite and video conferencing tools, Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Excitement about the HR/Payroll/Benefits space

  • Excellent critical thinking skills

As the Payroll and Benefits Manager, a typical day may include:

  • Guiding a local Hillel Director or Operations Manager through system challenges or complex reporting needs

  • Processing payroll on behalf of a local Hillel

  • Troubleshooting system inefficiencies and payroll errors, including researching and resolving issues and correcting processes

  • Diving into data, running and analyzing reports

  • Communicating payroll and benefits updates, including biweekly reminders and ad-hoc changes and updates

  • Running HSA distribution reports and uploading to vendor’s site

  • Monitoring Benefits enrollments in the system ensuring accuracy in codes and elections

  • Supporting an employee through parental leave planning or in filing a worker’s compensation claim  

  • Responding to questions via phone and email with a commitment to customer service
