Overview

Our warm and inclusive Conservative synagogue is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and organized Youth Director to guide, teach, and inspire our pre-teens and teens. This role supports Jewish learning and engagement for students in grades 7–12, helping them build meaningful connections to Torah, community, and Jewish life. We are looking for someone who brings energy, strong Jewish knowledge, and a passion for working with youth.

Key Responsibilities

Weekly Responsibilities

MAROM: Hebrew High Teaching & Management (Wednesdays Evenings) 

  • Teach and oversee our weekly Hebrew High program in collaboration with the Education Director. 
  • Develop an engaging curriculum that incorporates Jewish text, ritual, culture, ethics, and modern Jewish identity.
  • Communicate regularly with teens, families, clergy, and the Education Director to sustain participation and connection.

MAKOM: Relgious School program (Wednesday Afternoons & Saturday mornings)

  • Teach and facilitate weekly sessions for our students focused on Judaics, community-building, and Hebrew prayers. 

Administrative Responsibilities (Approx. 6 hours/week)

  • Handle planning, scheduling, communications, event logistics, and budgeting.
  • Prepare materials, maintain attendance, and manage youth program registration.
  • Maintain consistent outreach to families and ensure smooth program operations.
  • Work with the Education Director to ensure all programming fits into the wider calendar of Makom and Adath Israel. 


Monthly Responsibilities

Junior Youth Group Events 

  • Plan and run one monthly program for our Junior Youth Group (typically grades 5th–7th).
  • Provide fun, social, and values-based Jewish experiences.
  • These events usually run from October through May

High School Youth Group Events

  • Develop and lead one monthly event for high school teens, emphasizing leadership, social action, and community-building.
  • Create a youth group board made up of teens to create leadership opportunities, and larger buy-in from the teen community. 
  • These events also run from October through May

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth in Jewish educational, camp, or youth group settings.
  • Comfortable with Conservative Judaism and teaching Jewish texts, values, and traditions.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and lead engaging programs for teens and pre-teens.
  • Approachable, warm personality, with a passion for fostering Jewish community.
  • Able to work independently, collaboratively, and with flexibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Jewish education, Jewish Camping, USY, or synagogue youth leadership.
  • Ability to work Shabbat mornings/afternoons, evenings, and holiday programs.
