Salary Range: $5,000–$6,000

Ramah Day Camp is a fun, dynamic, and enriching Jewish summer camp experience for campers ages 4–14. Located on a beautiful tree-lined campus in Elkins Park, PA, we provide a full range of programming in a nurturing, safe environment that brings Judaism alive in fun and engaging ways.

Our campers enjoy a summer of growth, exploration, friendships, learning, and fun, with the goal of creating lifelong Jewish connections, one happy camper (and staff member) at a time!


Job Summary

Rosh Tefillah & Musikah (Head of Prayer & Music) is a Jewish educator who oversees the program development and integration of Jewish music and prayer around camp.

The Tefillah program ensures that camp services are run according to the standards of the Conservative movement as set by Ramah Day Camp, while the music program enhances the Jewish culture around camp by teaching Hebrew songs and zmirot.

This person is a resource for the staff in camp as they work to incorporate Jewish song, prayers, and music into camp life and programming.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead an engaging camp-wide tefillah (prayer) and Jewish music program that reflects the values and standards of the Conservative movement and Ramah Day Camp.
  • Plan and facilitate daily and special tefillot, including whole-camp gatherings such as Kabbalat Shabbat, Havdalah, and other holiday or commemorative services.
  • Teach music classes that introduce campers to Hebrew songs, z’mirot, tefillah melodies, and Jewish music in fun, engaging, and age-appropriate ways.
  • Train and support camp staff in incorporating Jewish song, prayer, and brachot into daily camp life and camper group programming.
  • Encourage and mentor campers and staff to actively lead songs and prayers, fostering confidence and community participation.
  • Coordinate visiting rabbis/educators.
  • Maintain tefillah materials and ritual supplies (siddurim, Torah, Shabbat and Havdalah items), ensuring smooth execution of all services.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Jewish education preferred
  • Strong Jewish literacy and knowledge of prayers
  • Desire and ability to work with children and young adults in a camp setting
  • Be a self-starter and able to work with minimum amount of supervision
  • Must have strong leadership skills, ability to motivate, manage, and counsel
  • Ability and willingness to live by Jewish concepts and values in camp community
  • Ability to maximize the skills and talents of staff members at camp
  • Ability to communicate with, relate to, and serve as an example to all campers and staff
  • Ability to be a front-of-the-room presence
  • Ability to accept guidance, constructive feedback, and support

Working Conditions

Pre-camp responsibilities are to be performed remotely. Summertime responsibilities are to be performed at the day camp location in Elkins Park, PA.
