Congregation Beth Judea (CBJ), a welcoming egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Long Grove, Illinois, is seeking an Assistant/Associate Rabbi or Cantor to partner with Senior Rabbi Morris Zimbalist. With 431 member families and nearly 60 years of history, CBJ is a thriving center of Jewish life in Chicago’s northwest suburbs offering mentorship, growth, and the chance to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
- Provide pastoral care and counseling; officiate at lifecycle events in partnership with Rabbi Zimbalist.
- Lead and participate in Shabbat, holiday, and weekday services, including davening, Torah reading, and delivering sermons and divrei Torah.
- Tutor b’nai mitzvah students and serve as an engaged presence in the religious school (114 students, K–7).
- Contribute to adult and youth education programming.
- Bring fresh ideas to congregational programming, outreach, and engagement initiatives.
- Attend Board and Executive Committee meetings; collaborate with lay leadership and staff.

We have an award-winning USY chapter, a growing religious school (up 20% in two years with $613/student tuition through Project 613), and active adult learning programs. CBJ is in the midst of Campaign Eit Ratzon, a $2.5 million capital campaign that has already surpassed $1 million in pledges. Qualifications
- Rabbinic ordination and eligibility for Rabbinical Assembly membership or Invensted Cantor with the Cantor's Assembly.
- Warm, empathetic pastoral presence with strong educational and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative leadership style; comfort and creativity in the pulpit.
Compensation & Start Date
Total compensation of $125,000–$140,000, commensurate with experience, including salary and benefits (major medical insurance, convention/continuing education allowance, Rabbinical or Cantorial Assembly dues, and synagogue membership). Vacation included; weeks negotiable. Start date: July 1, 2026.
